5 blackjacks in one game? 4 players, 2 decks.

How did this happen? My first time going to a casino I scored 5 blackjacks in ONE game.. There were 3 other players, and it was a 2 deck deck. The dealer commented on it, and the other players were astounded (and quite angry, to be honest.) All of this was done in front of the cameras, I didn't know the dealer or anything like that. I watched the cards being shuffled and she did a damn good job.

Just curious as to if anyone is good at probability, and could tell me the chances of someone getting 5 blackjacks under these circumstances...

Very nice

Playing DD as a specialty I have seen situations very similar to this, not infrequently. But 5 in one game to the same person is an annomaly, enjoy and congrats.

just curious stealthy one. i've never had the pleasure of playing DD.
what would be the poorest DD game that you would still consider playing?

The probability of it happening is approximately C(n,5)*P^5*(1-P)^(n-5), where P is the probability of blackjack and n is the number of hands dealt.

If you were dealt 10 rounds on an infinite deck, the probability of getting x blackjacks is as follows:

Code:
x	Probability
0	0.61573
1	0.30595
2	0.06841
3	0.00906
4	0.00079
5	0.00005
(the probability for double deck will be different, and getting 5 blackjacks will be even lower than the formula predicts because you're using up aces in the first few blackjacks)

You ask why this happened. The probability being unlikely doesn't mean it's impossible, just rare. Would the others be amazed/mad if you got five 16's in a game?

No because it is much more likely to get a 16 than a blackjack is it not?

Hello Sage,

Probably different than what most would think as "good". It is more a combination of small seemingly inconsequential things. Most place to much emphasis on certain *popular* options without fully understanding the power of some others. It is very much a combination of options, and comfort level that will allow a "BJ Warrior" to go -all out- and play in the No Holds Barred style.;)

Best to you,

CP

thank you for the critique cp.
so maybe if i'm understanding correctly if your able to maintain that honored stealth you posses while still exercising your famed strength then the popular options aren't protection for your prey as most might think.

Sage,

That is certainly one way to put it, yes, very well put.

You may also say, on the other hand , that a player, AP, may mistakenly place to much emphasis on certain options while drastically underestimating the power of others.

I go prowling this weekend with bad intentions, in a far away place.

Best to you and the wife,:)

right cp my wording was imprecise meant to say that perhaps the absence of those popular options isn't the end all be all. lol. not for sure what those other options may be but i think stealth and the exercise of the power of strength may be a couple of them.
so but i've much to learn about DD but i have ideas about the direction you allude toward.
may those distant lands never know what hit them lol. if your wife is with you i hope she knocks the vp dead.
my wife and i are planning on hopping our way to your wooded territories before the end of summer to the place of frogs croaking happily. lol

Not "much" more likely but more likely in most cases. The probability of getting a blackjack is 2*P(10)*P(A). The probably of being dealt a 16 is 2*P(10)*P(6)+2*P(9)*P(7). If you were short on 6's, 7's, and 9's, there might be a way where blackjack was more likely.

(remember that P(10) is usually four times as large as all the other P's)

Thanks xP. Interesting how many posts that question sparked... I just found it odd, being my first time playing and in one shuffle.

At a local injun casino I once saw 6 BJ's on the table at the same time.
There were five players.
Well, in DD game with 3 other players off the top of a shoe, it's about 1 in 19,000,000 that all would be dealt BJ's, 5 BJ's in total.

Playing heads-up with a dealer who never would receive an Ace or a 10, maybe 1 in 12,000,000 that he would get 5 BJ's in his first 5 hands.

Not that any of that answers his original question lol.
