6:5 outbreak in Las Vegas

Holy crap, did you see this month's CBJN yet? It looks like MGM properties just converted a few dozen shoes around town to 6:5. What scumbags. Who would have thought MGM would do this before HET?

They want so bad to make 6:5 the default for BJ, they want it, they want it, they don't care if they drive away everyone but the $10 betters, they just want it. :flame:

The IP has had 6:5 shoes for a couple of years now. Harrah's has several of them now. HET HAS been adding these games, slowly but surely.

The casino business used to be known as a "recession-proof" industry. Now we know why that's no longer true.

Regarding the stock, it has taken a bit of a dive in the past month. Often, when a company starts chasing pennies today while ignoring dollars tomorrow, it's because someone on the inside knows there is not going to be a tomorrow.

HET has been dealing a lot of 6:5 SD and only a few 6:5 shoes while dealing somewhat playable shoes, and it seems that around the country in general 6:5 wasn't catching on and being phased out. In AC it's been reduced to a novelty game with rarely more than one table open. To see MGM turn a large percentage of their typically good shoe games into unplayable ones overnight is the big shock.

It's unnecessary in normal circumstances; the typical tourist ploppy brings a few hundred to the table and plays until it is all gone anyway. You've got to wonder what they were smoking.

again...El Cortez

I like the El Cortez and it shows in my handle. I'm no shill either. I got comped 3 nights stay with free food and beverage for playing about 15 hours of $15-100 a hand. Very few dealers called "checks play" on the $100 bets, though I know there's a reputation for calling it. It is single deck and DD 3:2, though the pen is not terrific. This place is no dive, but doesn't pretend to be the Bellagio. The clientele has improved and now includes some well-heeled young people due to the Cabana rooms. I saw no heat on anyone despite seeing quite a few $300-500 bets. I almost always pay for my trip from Tucson and the stay with my winnings, at least. The rooms are just fine - clean and comfortable with some decent views in the tower. If you get tired of playing BJ, there's plenty of FP video poker (with flowing free drinks if you play at the bar).

Bottom line is that El Cortez games give you the best mathematical chance of winning in Vegas - and with remarkably generous comps. http://inoldlasvegas.com/el_cortez.html

What in the **** is this? This is downright hilarious! Is the sweaty Spaniard trying to attract counters?

This is one of the funniest damn things I've seen in years!

It's really weird, because typically MGM isn't this way. They offer good games to people, not paranoid about counters, and they get the big bettors because of it.

I was at MGM this morning. I didn't see any new 6:5 games compared with my last trip a couple of months ago - at least among the tables that were open. The entire pit by the theater was closed all 3 shifts the last few days.
