AC hotel, food, comp, poker report

Hotels:

Caesars: 10/10. I believe it was the Centurion tower, but I'm not sure... Nicest non-suite I've ever stayed in. Bed was comfortable, flat screen TV, TV in the bathroom mirror. Nice shower and separate bathtub. Separate little room for the crapper, too. Excellent. Blackjack... not so good.

Bally's: 5/10. Claridge tower. Very nice bed, large, comfy. Room was... weirdly renovated is the best term I can find. AC was inconsistent (too hot at 60 degrees, then freezing at 68). Bathroom was tiny; below average for a motel 6. Decent tube TV. Pool was garbage, although they did have a ping-pong table in the pool area which was cool.

Resorts: 8/10. Nice, comfy bed. Spacious room. More than adequate.


Food:
Bally's
Buffet 2/10. Just bad.
Jonny Rocket's: 10/10 damn good chili fries, damn good burgers. 2:1 comp.
Pickles deli: 5/10 food was ok, but the service was bad. Philly cheesesteak and perogies were good.
Noodle Bar: 5/10. Fried rice was great, but there was nothing else for non-Asians.
6ix: 8/10 24 hour bistro. Get the fried mozzarella and meatball sliders. $8 for a steak, eggs, and country fries, too, so you can swing 2 people on a $15 comp.

Caesar's:
Noodle Bar: 8/10. Decent amount of food for non-Asians. Pad Thai was good.
Italian restaurant in the lobby (can't remember the name): 7/10. Ok for a gourmet comp. Not nearly as good as some steakhouses I've eaten at.

Trump Plaza:
Noodle Bar: 6/10. Decor was like a fast food restaurant. Food was adequate.

Resorts:
Noodle Bar: 9/10 very good. Get the general Tso's. Very good service for AC.
Cafe (24 hour place): 7/10 decent food. CRAZY people at 4 in the morning.


Poker:
Bally's: played NL. Fast dealers. Players were below average, and absolutely did not understand bet sizing. They would routinely bet $25 into a $100 pot on 3 successive streets. Make pot-sized bets with good hands, while taking the cheap cards when they underbet. $1 per hour in comps.

Comps:
Caesar's: 4/10 Not so good. But it's harrah's, so you knew that. You can squeeze food out of them.
Bally's: 6/10 good at comping food, but bad with rooms and higher end comps.
Resorts: 10/10 (for AC) best comps I've seen in AC. Covered all of our food and room with no hasssles.
Trump Plaza: 5/10 seem to comp about $15 of food for 2 hours of green chip play (with comp hustling).

Resorts is my comp room joint, and I completely agree with you as long as it's one of the rooms that used to be two at one point in time. They are huge and have two full bathrooms. We've only stayed there once where we didn't get the big room, and man does it make you want the big one.

Especially when it's free, very great deal.

In regards to poker at Bally's, isn't it 1/3 NL instead of 1/2? They usually bet $25 down the street when they only have a pair.
The Borg has the best Hotel experience in my opinion in AC. For Caesars, I'd add that the Cafe Roma is quite nice too.

Let's see- hotel I liked the most was the Dennis Tower at WWW/Bally's. Centurion Tower at Caesar's was good too- avoid the Claridge rat-trap.

Best 24 hr experience- Breadsticks at Resorts. Try the Seafood Fra Diavolo.

Best hamburger-The Oaks at Hilton.

Best market/health food- Zeytinia Market in Tropicana. I always try to fit in a panini and some sushi from there when in AC.

Best noodle bar- the one at Caesar's.

Best buffet to crapulate yourself at- probably Showboat.

Best Blackjack- Hilton, Trop, Resorts, Trump Plaza

Best places to go "beyond counting"- Trop, Trump Plaza, Showboat, Bally's.

Best place to score- Young man: Trop. Older man: Caesar's. Man's man: Trump Plaza.

Best place to avoid- Trump Taj Mahal.

Best Comps- Colony (Hilton, Resorts), HET.

Note this is all Boardwalk stuff, I don't spend enough time in the Marina properties to compare.

Agree completely with your assesment of boardwalk BJ, Monkey, although I've gotten to the point that I rarely play Hilton. They have become like the downtown vegas places in that they are paranoid and sweat black play. Also Borgata has to be included in best BJ in AC, although I know you have a disclaimer that you don't often play there.

What really made me curious was your comment about avoiding The Taj, which is pretty much my home base. Any reasoning that you would care to share?

Pen is TERRIBLE at the Taj. It's been that way so many times, I don't even divert into there anymore.

Hilton has heat, but it's been pretty much limited to one pit boss and if you avoid him you should be OK.

I find the pen to be very dealer dependant, like most places. Some of the older, long-time dealers that are there during the week still give decent pen, But that's a fair enough assessment, I just wasn't sure if you were talking blackjack conditions, food, bad carpeting, too many cats, or just what the criteria was for avoiding the taj. :laugh: I was afraid you knew something about the building coming crumbling down soon that I didn't. Based on Blackjack conditions, shouldn't all the HET properties make that "avoid" list?

Borgata Buffet, Yes indeedy top of the line as far as buffets.

You guys seem to put a lot of stock in best rooms. I must admit this is an afterthought to me. As long as it's clean, has a good size tv, working shower, and a bed and most important comped....I'm happy. I don't go to spend time in the room. The room is just a convenience so that I can continue my play several days without the hassle of traveling back and forth. I'm not extra impressed when they give me a suite, nor upset when the room looks directly at the hotel tower of the next casino or even towards dirty old Pacific Ave.

For a cheap, quick bite, I must endorse "Burger" at the Taj. The juiciest, tastiest burger I've ever had. It's a good size and only $10.

It was 1-3 when I played. There were also 2-5 NL, 2-4 limit, and 1-5 spread limit stud game when I was there.

That's true, I myself have no problem staying in a roacher, as long as the plumbing and climate control work and it is quiet enough to sleep. But a girl is going to get pissed off about a dirty or uncomfortable or even an ugly room. But if the room is nice she is going to be happy, and will make you happy too!

Are you referring to the most exclusive "miracle mile" in the US of A, Monk? The infamous Wells Ave. Yeah. I've stayed there too. :grin::grin:

Once Upon a Time ...

I was once evicted and trespassed from a palatial penthouse suite at a truly upscale strip property - in the rain - in the wee small hours, and wound up crashing at a real dump. Going from a 2,400 sq. ft. multi-thousand dollar per night ultra-luxury suite to a $25 North Las Vegas motel for hookers and crack-smokers was almost more than my girl could handle. She practically had a breakdown. L.O.L. I thought that it was humorous, a sort of existential joke. She felt humiliated, as if it was being broadcast on CNN. L O L
