Additional advantage to surrender

I've only played for 60+ hours but I've realized there is another slight additional advantage to surrender in addition to it's already slight mathematical advantage in the normal BS plays: dealer error! Surrendering seems to be a hand the dealers screw up on the most. A couple of times I've surrendered an appropriate hand vs A only to have the dealer still pay me off after a blackjack (european hole card). And other times I've had the dealers pay me my surrender fee only to forget to take my original bet (I guess dealers aren't used to giving and taking chips on one hand). Happened to me again last night. Anyone else find this?

I had this happen to me several times in less than half an hour. The first time, it took me a second to grasp what had happened, and then I was so surprised that I didn't react at all. The second time, I started wondering how long this could last; so in the spirit of scientific inquiry, I didn't point that one out, either. I can't remember if I got a third one out of him or not, but it was fun to see the light come on for him when he caught himself about to do it again. If it occurred to him to wonder about the previous ones, he didn't say anything.

I once surrendered my 16 vs T and was paid 1/2. Then the dealer turned over his downcard, an Ace! His Autopeek messed up and the entire table ended up losing all their bets. But the dealer, embarassed, wasn't about to ask for my $2.50 back. That's how you beat a dealer BJ.

Dealer mistakes are to be exploited. My wife was with me once when I had two max bets out, dealer showed Ace and I insured, the dealer flipped BJ and paid me 2-1 on the insurance bets WITHOUT collecting my main bets.

My wife whispered a few moments later, "are you going to just keep than money?" I whispered back, "Sweetheart, this isn't a church, its a casino!" zg

I had it happen three times in one session last week at a casino on Fremont known for breaking in a lot of new dealers. None of the bonuses were on blackjacks. One was on a push, one on a loss and one on a double down that pushed. All were with max bets out. It didn't hurt that in all three instances there were side bets that were confusing the dealer.
