Another Question! Over Under 13 side bet

At the local store, the O/U 13 side bet pays even money and the wager cannot exceed the original wager on your hand. Flat betting 5 dollars a hand and playing basic strategy, would being able to wager 5 dollars on the O/U 13 when it is in your favor be enough to eliminate the house edge at a 6 deck game? I know for each hand played, you would expect to lose 25 cents a hand. On average, what would be your EV on a five dollar even money O/U 13 bet when you only bet when you had an advantage, and would the dollar value per hand be enough to offset the negative dollar value per every normal hand?

Something tells me that the 6 deck makes it unlikely, but I want to be sure here. I don't like to miss opportunities for profit!
Your 25 cents figure is incorrect. If one assumes the house advantage to be a half-percent at all times, then one would lose 2.5 cents per hand on the primary wager.

I know that there are specialized counts that are intended only for the O/U 13 bet. When using these, I hear it is highly profitable.

What I don't know is how well a normal count can be applied to the side-bet. I'd think pretty well, but I am not entirely certain.

Yeah that sounds very exploitable, but could also be a bigtime counters trap.

Its really only a good exploitable bte with a special count against 1D with 1-4 spread >>

Over/Under was popular in the early 90's, and all but disappeared in a few years.

I have NEVER seen it offered on anything but 6 and 8 deck shoe games.

I have a rare copy of Snyder's published monograph on Over/Under
BUT the paper made available to the public for free is quite adequate
for almost any purpose.

That over/under bet never really caught on with the public, but the counters flock to it. It really smooths out the variance. It was so effective that there was a special count made just for that, people played basic strategy, but they increased their bets in both positive and negative counts.

This thread is over guys. There is no casino in the US that offers this game with deep penetration. And even if they did, the limit would be too low to bother with!

A player almost always ends a hand with a total over 13. They might need 3 more cards to do it but it seams like most of the time they are over 13 because under 11 they take a card. On 12 or 13 they hit most of the time it is rare when people stay with 12 or 13.

Over/under is for the initial 2 cards. Ace-2 counts as 13.
But.....But...aces are always counted as one! Before I was informed that there aren't any US casinos that offer a good O/U 13 game/bet, I was running some trials using the crush count from Professional Blackjack (looks like I'm giving that up, oh well). Count was -5 or lower, so under 13 bet twice in that shoe. Both times my first card was a 10, causing me to panic. The ten both times was followed by an ace. Win the under bet and 3:2 on my natural, if only it was really money!

Apparently some Eastern European Casinos still use this side bet, not sure how safe I would feel in Eastern Europe, let alone a casino there though.
