Ken provides a whole other forum at https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/
I see you are in the UK, like me. That limits things in terms of land-based tournaments, though we have access to one or two more online sites than U.S. players (for legal reasons).

In fact, you mention in another post that you play at casinorip.com (a.k.a GameAccount). That's one of the sites that offers online tournaments, unavailable to U.S.players. And you'll see from the following thread that we should be getting an interesting anouncement from them sometime soon -

At the atlantis and peppermill they run blackjack tournaments on tuesday-thursday for a $20 buy in top prize is $500+. There is all kinds of funky rules in these tournaments. Such as blackjack pays 2 to 1, 5 card charlie pays 3 to 1, 3 sevens pay 2 to 1, you can double on any two cards, you can double after a split, one deck blackjack dealt face down two rounds before shuffle! Dealer hits soft 17 and no surrender. On special payouts you must show your cards right away if you tuck the cards they only receive even money.
I wonder what the off the top player advantage is with these rules. My guess is 3%!

yeah, that's exactly my 'problem'... there's lots of online tournaments but not so many live tournaments.. seems like most of them are in the US...

i live in london and I still haven't found a land base tournament to attend (at least not one I stand a chance getting into)..
I play poker every other wednesday at this bar near my flat and i realized that you learn much more in live tournament rather than online...

Thanks for the info, I do play quite a lot at Casinorip.com but i log in directly so more often than not I miss the news.. from the forum thread it seems like they're doing a land base tournament in London? All i could find on the site was the £3k 'warm up' for this London Blackjack Open..

pardon my ignorance but 'what's atlantis and peppermill' ?
all these rules do seem a bit funky but i think it would be fun to play some different rules... if it's in London, I definitely want to check it out..

btw, i never understood why our (players) cards are dealt face up and the dealer gets it face down... when my dad was teaching me to play blackjack (i was probably 11), we always got one up one down...

There have been a few in London. If you look through the recent threads on the bjt European forum, you'll see them mentioned. In particular there used to be a monthly free tournament at the Gala, Queensway (a.k.a Golden Horseshoe), it's been discontinued for the moment, but may return.

Actually, there is one coming up which I haven't mentioned there. It's on November 6th, at Maxim's. I won't be playing, as it's too expensive for me to justify to myself (given the variance involved in such things). It's a hybrid format, £500 to enter, with up to two chip-rebuys available at a further £500 cost each!

It's limited to 28 players, and advertised as a £50,000 possible prize fund. Reading the small print, that would be if 28 players each spend the full £1500, implying the house is adding £8,000 to the prize pool.

The current warm-up is an online-only event, but then there will be qualifiers for the land-based event. Unusually, there will be no direct entry available; online qualification is the only way to get a seat.

£500 to get in?? Ouuuch! I think this one's out of my reach too...

Yup, I think I'm going to put a some money in this one, see if I get a good return to finance a seat for the live tournament...
