Are Dealer's Briefed On BS?

I think they actually get that way from dealing for a long time and hearing all the BS concepts from the players at the table. I've had dealers on their first day who didn't even know that an A counted as 1 or 11.

Usually dealers are pretty accurate as far as BS goes if they have been dealing for a while... occasionally they are a bit off.. for example one time I had a dealer tell a noob that it is basic strategy to split 99 against a 7.

I don’t think there are any casinos in the world that train their dealers in BS. Frankly, it’s not their job to know BS. Their job is to deal the cards and make the payouts based on the house’s procedures. They are technically not supposed to give any playing advice to the players at all. Although some dealers manage to learn BS in their spare time at home, most of them really don’t know how to play properly. And, as Preston mentioned, sometimes they don't even know how the game is played.

right thats the sense i percieve about dealers. i've run accross some that say they play blackjack at other casinos.
it was funny one time there was a dealer who must have been counting. when he was calling out the player card totals he blurted out the running count then kind of shame facedly goes "hmm where'd i come up with that number  ".

best regards,

dealers learn from their players

Sure, there are a few dealers who learn basic strategy because they are also players, and even fewer who can count.
Most dealers know the game as well as their players. They cringe when you hit A,7 vs 9,10,Ace. They think splitting 9's vs things like 2,3,8, and 9 are crazy. They think you are a gambling fool when you do not take even money and that hitting your 12 vs their 3 will ruin the "flow" of the cards.

Dealers are dealers. They are paid to deal the cards, make the correct payouts and to control the bets on the table (make sure no one adds or substracts). They are paid to count to 21, know the rules of the individual casino but are not paid to learn how to play the game.

I think another question to ask is "Ever want to bitch-slap a dealer?"

I know I have.

About a month ago I was playing heads up about 3am. The RC was hovering around +3 mid shoe so I went to two hands and raised my bets. I would get A BJ on one and a 14 on the other against a dealer 8. She'd flip over a 16 then a 10 to bust.. then later in the shoe when the count went around 0 she ended up winning 3 hands in a row and then starts lecturing me on how my "crazy plays earlier threw off the order of the cards." I thought it was kinda rude.. but when the shoe ended I just walked away.

Sometimes the dealers say stupid stuff.

Alot of them look down on you as if you are just chucking money away when you know you are going to loose. I dropped hundreds last night and they made me feel like crap which was the opposite of what I would have expected.

Friggin dealer kept hitting pat 20's when the count was high and I couldnt win anything about of 3 shoes with counts from 1 to 7.

I've also seen sketchy advice from dealers. Sometimes they couch it too strongly in "Well, some people like to do X, some like to do Y", when I want to yell "BUT THE RIGHT ANSWER IS X, YOU FOOL!". In other words, they give advice based off popularity rather than math. And of course I've seen wrong advice too.

But at the same time, I've been at shops where they will offer basic strategy cards to whoever wants one (I actually got one from a floorperson). And one dealer not only knew his BS well, but he had a laminated card stored immediately behind his employee ID for resolving any disputes.

Why would anyone hate a stupid dealer? That is a godsend. They won't care if you split 20's or any other move while a smart one will yell out "splitting twenties" Stupid delaers will also be more likely to pay you out mistakenly, though it can work the other way around if you aren't careful.

Stupid is cool, here are the dealers I DONT like:

Rude dealers
The Ones who can't add up the hands (and all painfully slow dealers in general)
The Know it alls
The Robots (no emotion whatsoever)
The Pen killers

And don't forget the tip hustlers! The worst I have ever seen are at the Auto-Truck Plaza just outside of Vegas (near the Silverton). They would insist that the players tip on almost every hand! Sometimes they would not deal until someone put out a tip. It was shameless...but it worked.

Tip hustlers are the worst..

What I normaly do when they try that is to say "I normally tip but since you're being greedy I'll take my tips elsewhere."

most dealers are gamblers

The casino doesn't teach them about basic strategy. But most dealers are gamblers, believe me they are immersed in blackjack, 5 days a week, and many are playing when they aren't working, believe me... They do not need to be briefed in most cases, they already know.
Many dealers are briefed on card counting however, and a dealer who can count cards is a commodity to the casino. Watch out for dealers who count and avoid thier tables like the plague, because if you count they can figure it out.
Be sure to tip dealers, if you are a counter, because then they won't squeal on you.
