Backcounting

I want to start backcounting (BC). One deterrent to BC is that wherever I go the tables are full and you are lucky to get a seat at all, much less a seat when the count is right. How do you experienced BC'ers deal with this? I don't want to move up to $25 tables (which are sometimes less crowded), because my BR is still meager (only $7,500). Maybe I should only play in the wee hours of the AM when things are slow. Is this the way to go, or do you have a better idea?

If you have $7500 available, $25 tables should be just fine. You're only playing good counts that justify more than a $25 bet anyway. It's losing the big bets that kill your bankroll, and unfortunately nothing can be done about that.

Would you bet $250 or since you are not playing negative counts it doesn't really matter? Maybe $75 would be more appropriate for my BR.

If you want to bet $75, or 1% of your bankroll, flat betting back-counting, I would wait for a TC of +3. Should still be pretty safe, even with such a large bet.

i'd only go as high as $50 myself with $7000 bank and that would be at tc=4, maybe $25 at tc=3 ..... this just off the top of my head, should be a fair ROR for a decent game.

Are you playing weekends? That and evenings are tough on the lower limit tables. If you're backcounting with a 10-15 dollar unit, your first bet would open up the $25 tables for you, too.

Your favorite place is not too crowded weekdays before dinner time. I believe you stay overnight. Go down in the morning and you'll see dealers just standing in front of empty tables.
