Best single count for pitch games

I now have about 400 hours in playing high-low with 40 indices. Counting and playing has gotten almost automatic now. Apparently side counting aces is not worthwhile with this count according to posts here. I play pitch games almost exclusively. I guess I'm looking for a recommendation for a single count, perhaps with a comprised set of indices, for 1 and 2 deckers. Would Zen or UBZii be among the better choices? Other counts suggested? Time to consider some form of shuffle tracking? Thanks guys and gals.

I'm surprised there are no comments.
I'm not a pro (do not play BJ for a living), but I do play and study BJ. I play shoe games using HiLo.

Recently I simulated different counting systems using the same indices I use in HiLo and flat betting (this should show differences in overall playing efficiency, I think). I found that Mentor is the best single parameter level 2 count, ~7% better than HiLo for the 6deck shoe game I play.

I am a HIOPT II fan. It is very strong for pitch but I am not sure if it is the strongest for pitch.

HiOpt II has higher PE (~10% better than HiLo under my sim conditions), but I think you need to side count As to increase its BC. That makes it a two-parameter (main count and sidecount) system. Am I right?

Yes, to get the BC higher than HILO you use the ace side count. It shouldn't be used in shoe games without it. It fairs pretty good without the side count in pitch but side counting is a lot easier in pitch games because you don't have as many aces to count before the shuffle. Side counting takes discipline. It is not really that hard once you practice for a while. Some of the best players I know keep as many as 4 separate counts in their head at once accurately in shoe games. I can do 2 well enough, I am working on trying to add a third but don't feel good enough to try it in a money game. Maybe if I end up where there is some good pitch games I will try it. I don't trust getting deep into a shoe yet while keeping accuracy with 2 side counts. I am getting better though.

Zen and UBZ will be just dandy.

the strongest choice would be to use Carlson's AO2 for single and double deck and then use Zen for shoes all using the AO2 index numbers. The numbers are almost identical. Just know the h17 and s17 deviations.

Another option...just use Zen for all games.

Final Option...High-Low for shoes and Hi-Opt-1 with the Ace side count for pitch games both using the Hi-Opt 1 index numbers.

Thanks for the replies. Zen, UBZ2, and halves all look viable now to me. Do most of the halves' users, count the indices as in the book or do they double them? Counting them as in the book requires learning very few new indices. Amazing.

The strongest choice for single deck would be to keep separate counts of every rank and have Tthree sit next to you and give you his wild ass guesses for strategy variations.

Depends

The best count is almost always the one used by the person answering your question.

Mentor kicks ass in pitch games, because it is the one which I use, even though I play primarily shoes.

If I were to switch to UBZ, then, at that point, it would become the best count for pitch. If I used halves, then that would be the best count.

I would not be the one to be advising you since I have never played SD but your advice is actually right for an EOR expert for SD. Maybe one day that will be me but I have a lot to learn yet. At least I am trying to learn enough to be that guy. With your experience you should already be that guy.

I have some blackjack brain teasers which are seeing how good you are at coming up with the correct play during the last round of SD play. The puzzles usually involve information gathered in team play. The correct play usually has a huge advantage and is not what your index indicates. It takes me five or ten minutes to figure it out in my head some of the time but I get there. The guy you want advising you can do it in seconds.

I would appreciate it if you guys go easy on me today. My Mom died last night so I could use a day off from whatever sick games some of you seem to like to play.

No matter how predictably relentless the inevitable is,
when it arrives the pain generated takes its time before
leaving us in peace.

My thoughts are with you, my friend.
