My day was hard work but pulled off a decent win. $450.00 at the low limit/min tables. The usual drop three hundred win back five after a break etc. I just can't seem to sit down at a table and pull off even average variance the first ten hands. or even the first two shoes.
No matter: My belle "Sharon" is fleecing the casino at video poker! I find this out during my break after getting creamed on the "front nine". She's up three hundred and still going strong. I omit mentioning my loss of three hundred. her video game shows FOUR aces!
Back 2 the tables. This time I not only get the high TC but the right cards two. Split four nines, doubling once and dealer goes bust. Later split four aces and she busts!
I'm up about 300.00 and we leave for casinos north of here. This had been just a "field trip". Only looking for good rules at the northern CA Indian Rancherias.
Next stop is a newish place called Robinson's off Clearlake. The double deck is playable but not that deep of penetration. I spend an hour and drop seventy five. Not much but at least it gives me a little more experience playing hand held games.
Sharon gets ANOTHER four aces at video poker and goes up ANOTHER 300.00
Better to be lucky than good.
So we split for the older Konocti Reservation . here is a decent six deck shoe w/$5.00 min $500.00 max. 3:2 DAS one card aces. Decent penetration. Yet I drop 14 out of the first 16 hands. Dealer either has a ten or an ace up card on EVERY hand!
I split the table just because my attitude is the pits. Later a female dealer comes in. So I re-enter the table ride a small wave and recoup the $75.00 or so the initial disaster leaves behind. later a couple of drunks join and the table goes well into a plus TC. I hit it, the drunks hit it and they think I'm magic.
So where's Sharon? Over at the video poker. UP $600.00 on ANOTHER four aces.
Better to be lucky than good.
At the restaurant all the tension and long driving gives me an effing migraine. i must sit at the booth with hands over my eyes in order for my eyes to clear.
We leave. On the way back we check out a sty called Ho Kah Pah or something jive like that. In a town named Hopland. TERRIBLE rules. STAY AWAY! Even money on naturals unless they're suited. I bitch to everyone at the table how they're getting screwed and the dealer and pit boss take notice. I mention that i was gonna chip up a couple thousand but changed my mind from the schitty rules.
We get home riding fumes (low on gas).
Ten hours, twenty bucks in gas less meals shows a profit of $1600.00 or so between the two.
Not bad for what was supposed to have been just a "field trip" in search of good games.
I tell Sharon SHE's paying rent this month. Agrees. I'm too soft to tell her that her good fortune was just plain old fashioned luck. Why not let her enjoy her fantastic win? This is no time to explain "positive variance". She explains to me her wins was from progressive betting at Video poker and I just congratulate her.
Why bother her with the math? She wouldn't believe me anyway.
Who knows? Maybe she's just plain lucky.
There were a few other places I missed on this field trip but all and all who could complain? Even the migraine seemed worth it.
Played no Zen system at all. Just not quite swift enough for it yet but then again this is only my third day in practice.
Final analysis? I can see why the pros clock a lot of miles and build up travel expenses. Cheaper to find better rules at more distant casinos than piddle away hours at crappy games.
And to avoid fleecing the same haunt every Friday and Saturday night.
