Betting above table max

What is the standard casino procedure when the dealer didn't notice your bet was above the table max, the dealer then notices after the hand has been played and the outcome of the hand is:

a) you win
b) you lose

Also, what would people do if the dealer hasn't noticed your excessive bet and you have just lost the land...?

Happened to me once - I did it on accident but the dealer got pissed but paid me in full. (I was only $100 above the max)

In many places I play as your bet approaches the max they will call out "pay or take to the table max" so that is what they do.

I believe it's sort of like when someone just slams cash down to play in Nevada. They'll yell out "cash plays to the table max" or something similar.
