It depends on a few things. You're going to need to provide more info. How many decks? What rules? Are you backcounting?

Most important is how much money are you willing to put to this cause then you can use an optimal betting calculator to determine how much you should bet at each TC.

8 decks, counting from beginning of shoe buying in for about 200
You will never survive with that buy in if you are starting from a fresh 8D shoe...You are better off backcounting till the count hits + than flat bet the minimum with only 200 and wong out when the count drops.

The way you increment your bets will be determined by how much your advantage changes at each TC, how big your bankroll is, how much risk you are willing to take, and what kind of limitations are imposed (table limits, spread size, etc.). We can’t answer your question without more info.

Most books cover the betting strategies for the systems they teach, so that would be a good place to start learning. You can also find general advice about optimal betting and risk in Schlesinger’s Blackjack Attack. You could also search this site for older threads on bet spreads to see how other people are betting.

It's going to be system specific, but here's a generic way to look at it:

Determine how much of your (total) bankroll you want to bet when your advantage is "x" %.

If hi-lo'ing, each +1 TC is roughly an additional 0.5% advantage. you get the first advantage at a TC of +1 or +2 (depending on the rules)

So, at a TC of +3, your advantage might be 1%. So you could bet 1% of your bankroll here (or less if you want to be more conservative). At a TC of +5, you would bet 2% of your bankroll.

At neutral/negative counts, you're still betting as little as possible or wonging.

Well if you're talking about optimal betting and betting in proportion to your advantage, assuming a 1% advantage, betting 1% of your roll I think would be overbetting because you are not taking variance into consideration. Optimal would be about 80% of your adv times your roll.
