Blackjack Dilema

I am going to the Casino with my friends next Wednesday, August 23, for possibly the last time in a long while because I'm off to college.

Now where I play, I'd say 95% of the tables are 6 deck CSM, with the exception of the High Limit Area where it is 6 deck hand dealt.

Now usually I play $10 a hand just with basic strategy, because Im playing the CSMs, but I am considering going to play the high limit area ($25 minimum) for this one trip.

The Reason I am doing this is because CSM's are awful and I want to try and use counting to gain an edge and I can do that in the high limit area. But I have two dilemas:

Dilema #1: I have no experience counting, as I have not been able to do it before. I am decent at counting with Hi/Lo at my house, and I can count down a deck in I'd say about 35-40 seconds, maybe less. However, I am not very familiar with the indices to deviate from BS or the Counts on which to raise/lower my bets. If I tried very hard Im sure I could learn these in the next 4 days, but idk...

Dilema #2: My Bank Roll right now is about $700. I am not confident that that would be enough money to play even one session of $25 minimum hands.

So, my thinking is that I should not play the High Limit Area and wait until I know how to count well, and have more money, and have more time to prepare.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

David

Playing 25 dollar minimum, 700 dollars is not a sufficient sized bankroll. You will have a good chance of losing your entire bankroll on that one trip. So unless you are willing to accept a large ROR, it's better that you just wait...

If I were you I would save my money until I could find better playing conditions your ROR is going to be really high. If you plan on playing over a couple hundred hands there will be a 50%+ chance you will lose your entire bankroll. Side note I tend to be really cautious I keep my ROR really small.

To play the 6-deck game, with Wonging if they'll allow it, you would need at least a 1:10 betting spread. That would make you max bet $250.00. That's just a wee bit higher than Kelly Betting calls for. I think if I were you, I'd skip the $25 tables. Even flat betting, you are only giving yourself 28 loses not counting lost doubles and splits and all things being equal (rules of the tables) you could make it go a lot further playing BS and sticking with the CSMs. There, I said it and though I'm shaking, I've advised someone to play CSMs! That did NOT feel good! :whip:

hey man i agree with you. except for one thing. it seems as if Dyepaint only has the option of $10 min csm tables. thats still to high for Dyepaint. but if he is just wanting to go there with his friends (this hopefully last time in this borederline crimminal establishment) then i'd say he should go ahead and play the $25 min table or one other option. try out his capability to count. hopefully he'll be able to wong at least out if not wong in also. it doesn't seem likely he'll be able to wong in at this joint. sounds like a really crap place. i'd say he should just 1:2 spread and wong out if he can't wong in. if he can wong in then only flat bet and keep hitting the table at high counts. what the hell who would care about getting eighty-sixed at a joint like this? anyway i would only recomend this if Dyepaint can live with losing the whole $700.
the other option would be like you say go ahead and play the damm csm table but he should only do it in a specific manner. Wong that sucker. stand behind the CSM table (there i said it) and wong that sucker. only go in for one round at a time and flat bet minimum and only go in after some ridiculously large number of small cards has hit the table. so what if it wont work. Dyepaint may get lucky and he will get some practice counting and wonging.
again i gotta say, what a crap establishment that must be, sad really sad.

best regards,
mr fr0g :D

Yeah the place is nice, but the blackjack rules arent great.

Oh and I forgot one big thing.

I have been over to the high limit area, and there is a sign that says "For Players Only", and there seems to be a table where you actually have to sign in and like get called to play (like poker) because it looks like there is only 1 high limit table!!

This would make wonging pretty difficult seems to me...

A lot of high limit areas also don't allow mid-shoe entry. They are so paranoid of counters in those rooms. I would also advise you to avoid the CSM's but if you really want to play that's your choice. If you are willing to put the whole $700 at risk you could play the high limit room with a 1-5 spread which will give you a slight edge. Also when you visit the casino go to the customer service area and fill out a comment card asking for a few shoe games in the regular blackjack pits.

Incorrect. Wonging even with a flat-bet will work - certainly a 1-2 or 1-3 spread is suffcient - 1-4+ is better. zg
