Blackjack VT worth the money?

Just found this on the net. Former MIT blackjack team members Mike Aponte and Dave Irvin made this online virtual training program to teach you their methods of how they won at blackjack. It's 100 bucks to start and then 20 bucks a month after the first 90 days. I don't see someone like Mike Aponte putting a "BS" website up in his name but still... the intro video on the main page just makes me uneasy. Maybe he's just not good at reading que cards. In any event, let me know if any of you out there have tried it or what you think of it.

Well, that is disheartning:( Add Aponte, to Rubin, Revere and countless other traitor who have switched to the dark side, including half the dealers in Vegas in the 70's, who went west to get rich and ended up on the "other" side of the table. At least thats my understanding. Was actually way before my time.

so no one has insight on if it's a good way to learn how to beat bj?
I can't comment on the value of the training program since I haven't taken it and don't know Aponte or Irvine. But if I can suggest there is a "BJ newbie free chat tutoring" every Tuesday night at 10pm eastern on this very site. Give it a try you can ask anything you want. Also try the frequently asked questions here too. A couple of good books for a new player are Renzey's Blackjack Bluebook and Snyder's Blackbelt in Blackjack.

Not worth it at all, and Aponte is not to be trusted.

Your money is better spent on CVBJ software and a couple of books. The rest is available for free right here.

That is good to know! I knew there were scheduled guest chats, but I didn't know there was a chat geared towards newbies. I'll be on tomorrow night if I can find the time! :)

The instructor for the newbie tutor chat is A#1 in my book. Extremely helpful, full of insight, and a pleasure to talk with.

A huge asset for all of us to learn from.

I would suggest not letting the opportunity pass you by.

Whats this based on? Your opinion? The same opinion that thinks an MIT graduate is unemployable?

Mike is playing both sides of the fence, and has a huge conflict of interest, so therefore should not be trusted in this area. But even aside from this, yes, in my opinion, the software and books, plus advice here, are far more valuable (and more cost effective) than seminars, online or not.

As far as employment goes, that was based on the statements of several members from the team that said themselves they were basically unemployable. (Certainly not all, but many who were engrossed with it.)

Being an MIT grad in of itself is certainly no guarantee of gainful employment. But did Mike even graduate? I'm not sure that he did.

In my opinion, Aponte and his cronies behave foolishly and misrepresent the trade of AP with their videos, apparently for the purpose of selling stuff to the inexperienced and unwise. A real AP video would would be boring and frustrating as hell and would probably turn more people off than it turned on.

Their educational credentials are no more relevant than mine or yours, and their AP accomplishments cannot be verified with anything other than their own claims. Nor can mine. But I'm not asking anyone for money.

There are enough free resources available online that I don't believe a product like this is worth risking any bankroll on. The reason I recommend CVData is because it doesn't promise to give you or teach you anything; all it does is allow you to create and test your own approaches and draw your own conclusions.

Actually blackjackvt.com was sold to a third party. They did not market it well so Dave Irvine took back a stake in the company. Mike Aponte has no affiliation with it anymore. Also, I beta tested it and in my opinion, it would be hard to find a web based app to match it. I beieve that qfit had a lot todo with the development of the training material as well. For someone starting out and those who think they can actually do the " Check out " it may be worth a try. I certainly had my hands full when testing.

Yes, I wrote Mike's BJ software. I haven't seen blackjackvt.com and have no connection. I was asked to review it in the beta period and never got around to it. In fact, I have turned down multiple affiliate requests from them.

This is not to say I do not think it is of value. How would I know since I haven't bothered to look? Frankly, I bore easily and hate watching videos.

You have to take knowledge where you can. Snyder and Wong not only accepted work from casinos, they were paid to testify against a card counter. Revere worked six sides of one coin. Michael Barnett may be hated, despised by friends of mine, but I’ll take info from him when I can. Same with the Z-Man and a few others that work on the “dark side.”
Never turn down a source of good information.
