What is the rational for doubling 11 against a dealer Ace under these rules but not doubling the same if playing S17? I see the logic in every other basic strategy play I believe, but this is one that seems backwards to me. If the dealer is getting an advantage by hitting soft 17 why throw more money at a disadvantageous situation? And if it's not considered to be a disadvantageous situation then why not double 11 against an Ace when the dealer stands on soft 17? This makes no sense to me.

The dealer's "bust rate" (how often the dealer will go over 21) for an
ACE up-card is higher in a H17 game then it is in a S17 game
.

When you double a hand you have two ways to win.

The dealer's bust rate plays into whether or not a specific hand is a doubling hand;
especially when the hand is weak when it does not improve, such as a "soft" hand.

Yes, it is a close call.

Typically the S17 shoe game will have an index for doubling 11 vs. Ace
at either +1 or +2 and ZERO or −1 for the H17 shoe game.
