Does anyone read this magazine? I picked one up at Barnes and Noble and read through it and it seems good and I may get a subscription.

Question: In the back where it lists the slot payouts around the country, some of the payouts are over 100%. Is that with some sort of slot club or are the casinos really that dumb?

Thanks,

David

I read it whenever the casino I'm staying in provides a free copy. I used to subscribe, as they offered a yearly funbook that had coupons worth more than the cost of subscription. Their funbooks are a thing of the past, these days. Most Harrahs give them away, if there is one near you.
As far as slots paying more than 100%, it can happen when a few jackpots are hit in a short period. As an example- a video poker machine may be set for a 99.7% payout over its cycle, but it is possible to get back to back royal flushs and have it pay over 100% for any one period. Also, a linked slot machine could yield its progressive win that would cause that particular casino to pay more than 100% for that reporting period.

It's not necessarily any dumber than paying for advertising.

Let's say you set a few penny slots at 100.5% returns, and make sure they're prominently displayed in magazines; more people show up than you have EV+ machines, and some of them end up playing the nickel slots at 98% payback.

It's common to have one or two slots in a bank that pay a good return, like 99, 100 or 101%. Then you set the rest to 95, and put a giant sign above them advertising the payout of the one good machine.
