Casino schills?

I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with these scum balls. I read a few threads that mention them in passing. I sure some of senior members and pros have had some good stories to tell. I like to know if the casinos you fequent use them and how could you tell. I have long suspected that some of the casinos I played at sent them to our tables to bust up the action. I find it hard to tell the difference between a schill and a roaming ploppy. blackchipjim

I think I read at one time that most schills will flat bet the min, play no bust, also they don't split or double down. Someone should be able to confirm this or that I'm confused and wrong.

I guess if they sent a shill to the table while the count was high, the shill would be eating cards thus busting up action. Otherwise, how does the addition of a player do this? Hopefully we not talking flow here?
In Asia, I often had run into shills but their main job was to just get a table going. Most players do not like to play heads up against a dealer, so they put a shill on the table and suddenly you have several players at the table.

During a good count, he would not be there to eat as many cards as possible.

yeah, shouldn't they hit to bust every hand....thus eating more cards?

Shills are not allowed to negatively affect your odds. They are more common in Baccarat and Poker. In Poker they play by specific rules and are therefore easy to beat if you identify them. I believe in most jurisdictions a shill must admit it if asked.

This has been my experiance when confronted with shills. at poker at least when i used to play some if you asked if a shill was at the table they would tell you although i am not sure if they have to play a specific way. have only run into one admited shill at a bj table. from talking to asian players i have known my understanding was that they were there to gain more action at the table or game the house wanted to prop up. last time i ran into one was about 8 months ago at a $50 dd table i was back counting and then wonged into at a indian casino. Got the hint she might be a shill when the cute older asian lady says to me while i am watching her and the dealer play alone " hi honey would you like to play with me"

I saw two woman playing wierdly. When the count was big they spread to take up full boxes, they were all min betting and splitting tens on high counts. Interested to see what happens I hung around and followed them out of the gaming area, the went into some staff entrance using Id cards! Surely that kind of thing is illegal.

The funny thing is they were probably splitting tens on high counts to try take your tens, which they really cant do. Well, and they also decrease your penetration a bit.

Nope, this is completely wrong.

A poker "shill" can play any style he wants, +EV or -EV based on his skill set. He just gets paid an hourly wage and it's up to him to manage his bankroll etc. Some shills are dealers not working that day and generally suck, or wanna be pros that are just getting ready for the big leap, or pros that are just comfortable at that limit, or complete fish that think they're better than they are and play a ton.

(I know what I'm talking about here, I'm a professional poker player)

Are you talking about a shill or a proposition player? A prop player can play anyway he wishes; but is still paid an hourly wage by the house. More often found in California card rooms.
