Casinos for Beginners

Perhaps someone that's knowledgable could explain the general goings-on and who's-who in a casino. All I know is from what I learned from the first part of the movie Casino, which didn't say much other than superiors carefully watch their subordinates.

As for being in a casino, I always wonder why anyone would want to be a pit boss. This guy doesn't do much: he's either slowly pacing around, or verifying money being colored-up, or keeping an eye on (seemingly) newly-hired dealers. Which brings me back to my original point: maybe the pit boss does more than I observe.

So if anyone could help, that would be great.

Actually the "Pit Critters" don't make much money. Many of the older guys I know are there for the health insurance. A dealer makes much more at a strip casino then stat takers. They have to get permission from the Shift Mgr. prior to writing any sizable comp. A host is your connection to RFB.

A Green Chip player may get comp's for a room in houses like the Golden Nugget, but that's now turning into a grind out joint.

A $10 table player should have no problem getting a buffet for a few hours of play.
