Chip Redemption at McCarran

When I was in Vegas last week with a couple guys we ended the last day with chips from probably 7 different casinos. Now it wasn't a problem to cash these out when they were all owned by the same company, and a major casino even cashed chips from a downtown casino.

That got me thinking: How many people do you think leave for the airport and realize they still have chips?

Do you think if McCarran had some sort of "Chip Redemption" it would be used? I would imagine most people keep very good track of their chips but who knows!

Casinos would be more than disinclined to foot the cost of such an enterprise as they'd rather you return with the chips in the future.

If you do not ever cash them in, they profit mightily, as the chips cost them about 35 cents each.

Flash is right. The casino's aren't going to pay for that. But sound like a good business plan. Set up a booth at the airport cashing in chips at 50 cents on the dollar.

There's also the float. They get to use your money interest-free, as long as you hold the chips.

Coinstar basically thrives from that kind of a business model. 50% seems too steep though :)

The business should be in agreement with the casinos, or else they will end up with thousands of CTRs when they go to redeem all those chips

Isn't there a religious Order which specializes in cashing in all the chips that gamblers drop in the Sunday collection baskets? They go to all the churchs, gather the chips and then cash them in, so each seperate church doesn't need to do it.
This sounds like a job for The Chip Monks.
