civility and dealers

what ethical code of conduct do you believe in with regards to behaviour towards dealers? I see some (disturbed?) individuals curse out dealers when they lose. I personally try to be amiable towards dealers, although sometimes I will slam my chips in frustration when I lose.

See Paragraph 4 Section II of the APCOC. (Advantage Player's Code of Conduct.) Which basicallly states "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." :)

The dealer just deals the cards as they come out of the shoe/off the deck. Anyone who curses out the dealer is a boor.

Yes, well - the "legend in their own minds" covers quite a few career choices, all the way from the medical profession to Wall Street.

I'm of the general opinion that there are people you like and there are people you don't know. There are few people I didn't like and didn't want to get to know better to see if I'd like them. Dealers (and anyone else) can think as highly of themselves as they want if that's what gets them through their shift, but their bodily fluids are the same temperature as anyone else's. (And that's the most polite way I know to phrase that!)

I've never seen any justification for being a jerk to a dealer. They're just doing their jobs. If they're unpleasant or obnoxious, complain to the pit, and they'll (usually) get a speaking-to.

If it's part of your "act", then grumble to yourself or even the other players. But leave the poor dealers alone, they don't deserve all the crap they get.

Conversely, keeping a dealer happy with you can pay off in many ways, especially in your "home store". I stand up for them regularly against abuse from other players, for example, or request a nonsmoking table, etc.

Truer words were never spoken! I can't say that I've ever seen an angry dealer give a player better pen.

It's nice to treat the pit with respect too. Why not? There's no upside in doing the opposite!

Julie is right-only a complete boor would be abusive to a dealer. Like the guy you see giving the kids at McDonalds a bad time if they sweep the floor while he's eating his burger! From a purely practical point of view it's smart to make the dealer your friend as you'll hear "checks play" ALOT LESS.:joker:
