If you have non counting friend(s) playing at your table and you are counting and ramping bets accordingly, what are the potential implications of having your partner(s) watch your bets and follow along (with some deviations for cover)? More than a back off?

Probably a backoff, but not much else. Playing like that is perfectly legal (albeit very obvious). You could even send secret signals to each other about how to bet and play. It's really just another form of Gorilla players. You may get some intense scrutiny, but there is nothing illegal about it.
