Comps question

I have always assumed that when you get up from a table BUT are obviously coming back (leave your chips, tell the dealer you'll be right back) that you are still logging playing hours in the computer and earning comps.

Recently a friend of mine said a casino he plays at actually "pauses" your play in the computer when you get up.

Does anyone know the accuracy of this?

Depends, on a lot of stuff. On the casino, the pit crew, the dealer, etc.

I assume you're talking about casino policy though. That also depends, on where you're playing. Some places do, some places don't. Either way, it's probably good to leave the table for a break when no one is watching.

Absolutely true at Foxwoods in Connecticut. A friendly floor turned the screen around and showed it to me. He also told me that it's used for players who wong out at the table-like me.

I told him I had no idea what he was talking about.

He sure did. He then told me that it was invented by some guy from MIT at which point I struggled mightily to keep a straight face. I got the sense that he just learned a new word and couldn't wait to use it.

When I explained my "method" of taking a break after loosing 5 hands in a row to "change the cards" he completely agreed.

One issue; if he watches you, now you have a "fixed strategy" that you may not want to follow. Perhaps a more generic "I leave when the dealer is crushing the table or I leave when I go to the bathroom" may have been less strict and allowed more freedom of action.

However, he also mentioned that nothing is perfect and it is hard to keep an accurate comp rating on very busy nights unless your table is constantly being watched.

In my experience most places try to pause your play, but as noted above, no system is perfect. Imperfection cuts both ways - sometimes you will end up with more comps than you "deserve" because your spot was left active in the computer, and sometimes you lose because the supervisor doesn't notice your return until later. I try to leave when the suits aren't watching, but that is not always possible.

What kind of offers do you guys get and after how long?

I seem to only be able to get 2 complimentary weekdays at MGM casinos and weekdays I must pay a discounted rate. On top of that I only receive about 25 bucks in freeplay or promotional chips. This is the Mlife players card. I rarely ever touch slots. I do all BJ with the occasional low stakes roulette with friends/family.

My brother however gets $600-$800 in freeplay, 3 comped nights in a suite anywhere on the MGM properties. Comped food and beverage for the whole stay, 2 free show tickets and limo service.. Now they even offer airplane tickets. *Granted he won a $40K jackpot in a highlimit slot back in 2008 and has played over 100k in 4 years. He now only gambles around 2-3k tops when he visits but still receives these awesome comps.

It all depends on the casino. Some places are cheap with rooms, some places are cheap with comp points, some places give me a weekend room offer for a playing a few hours, etc., but I mostly play BJ.

Assume if your a slots player they fall over themselves to give you comps because your an idiot, so thats probably it.

Depends, I know of one Hair.rahs property that didn't after a lot of "bathroom breaks" over multiple weekends. Most pit people are too lazy/don't care.

What will get you the best comps from table games is to give them some high-stakes play, which doesn't necessarily have to be for a real long session, although it certainly helps. Avoid mixing in lower-stakes play on the card, like the roulette you mentioned. You can be better off giving no play than giving small play, because what they like is a high trip average.

The stakes don't have to be all that high to get you some good room offers. Monte Carlo is easier than Mandalay Bay, which is easier than Bellagio. For that free play you're talking about, it's going to have to be a lot more. Anyway, the size of the bet seems to be more important than the length of the play. Sounds good. This past memorial day trip I snuck my card into a machine my friend was playing $25 per spin. Also two $100 spins!!!!! My offers all expire 6/30 so I am waiting on the new batch.. Hopefully they are better.. Does craps offer a better rating? I know slots are best but I wont touch them. Maybe like 5-10 bucks to waste time.

I've gotten break times credited towards my comps plenty of times, and I've gotten ****ed on comps more times then I can count.
