Count Dealer Downcard on Bust/Surrender?

If I bust or surrender, I don't get to see the dealer's downcard. How do I handle this from a RC/TC perspective?

Thanks much in advance,

It's just like any other unseen card, like the ones behind the cut card. The effect will be worsened penetration.

Excellent, thanks for the quick reply.

I suspected as much since I couldn't think of any other way to handle it...

Note that this would be pretty sucky on a large shoe. They don't do the courtesy of flipping over the down card before putting them in the discard tray?

One countermeasure (I never thought I'd say this) would be to play with more people at the table.

No, this is just me dealing to myself to practice tallying and retaining the running count. I quickly came to a surrender situation and then wondered to myself "do I get to see the downcard?"

So you're saying that in a brick & mortar casino, they'd be showing the downcard before discard during surrender? How about when the player busts?

TIA,

most joints i've been in you'll get to see the dealers cards but often when all the players bust the dealer flips it real quick and moves on with the dealing so you gotta watch closely.

Curiousity is a normal and not really a counter thing

You surrender, you bust and wonder if you would have been better off standing as the dealer begins to put her cards into the rack. Most dealers tend to show the cards but I have found an occassional dealer who just wants to get to the next hand quickly and hides that card.
I just ask, "what did you have" and throw in a comment after I am told, like "I knew I should have stood, or some hands you are going to lose no matter what you do". After asking a couple of times these dealers tend to now just turn the card for you every time.
This is not a cardcounter tell at all. You are doing this for the information to update your count only, but every gambler would want to know what the dealer had, if he made the wrong decision, etc, so just ask.
