Counting down decks faster with cards vs. Casino Verite

Only just recently I bought my first decks of cards (2 twelve packs of Bee 92). A few months ago I had started practicing the KO count (eventually with the CoBJ modification) with Casino Verite, never picking up a deck because I figured, the games I'm going to play I won't be touching the cards anyway, and dealing with the cards physically in my own hands is just going to slow things down. Or so I thought. One of my favorite counting drills on CV, as part of my KO training were the Full Table Drills, doing Running Count, Accuracy = Exact, dealing to the end of 6 decks, either displaying starting hands, or full hands. Sometimes I'd change the deck bias to get used to extremes. I gradually ratcheted up the speed until I could, some of the time, end with an average of 20 seconds/deck with no mistakes. But then I decided I'd switch to Zen, but I deliberately didn't do any counting drills for a few weeks. One thing complicating things was that initially, I liked the idea of switching the polarity on the KO tags, because it was much more natural for me to subtract the small numbers, and add to the count for the big cards. But in my decision to switch to Zen I decided I will just conform, and switch my polarity back to the conventional way.

So then last week I attempt my first Full Table Drill with Zen, and am disappointed to have to struggle to get 70 or 60 seconds per deck, just trying to get through 2 decks without the buzzer going off. So then I got my delivery of 2 dozen decks, and started counting down non-computer generated, physical decks, and fairly quickly I was getting 45 seconds. Then with just a little more practice, 40 seconds, then 35 seconds. Then I went back into CV for Full Table Drills, and was able to reduce the 60 seconds per deck to 55 seconds, then 50 seconds.

I was totally surprised that counting the decks in my hand would be faster then training on the computer. I still love the various kinds of drills on CV though.
