Hello.I am new to this blackjack forum
I would like to know if the counting helps you to win all the time or just informs you about the cards.
I'm learning the Hi-Low system.
(I'm playing with my friends)

SOME QUESTIONS:
1)Which value is good for the player and which one for the dealer? (-1,+1)
2)I saw in the movie "21" that they said count is +17.+17????I hardly get +4.
3)Do i have to count all the cards that are on the table (other player's and dealer's ones) or just mine?

+1 is good for you. -1 is good for the dealer. That is assuming you are using the traditional tags for cards in hi-lo (i.e. face cards and ace are -1, seven through nine is 0, and two through six is +1).

2)I saw in the movie "21" that they said count is +17.+17????I hardly get +4.

The movie is for entertainment purposes only. Making money via blackjack is EXTREMELY difficult and requires a sizeable investment in time and money. Do not base your expectations on learning how to count or profiting from a count off that movie.

If you want to see +17 or -17 in a running count, I suggest combining 8 decks of playing cards and count the combined deck down.

You have to count all of them. Your advantage is dependent on the cards that remain in the deck. In order to adequately make an assessment on what remains in the deck, you must count all cards.

Read all the stickies, memorize Basic Strategy (link on left hand margin) for the game you'll be playing, memorize all the info @ Blackjack School (link on left hand margin), and look at all the posts in the Card Counting forum. Then play against the Strategy Trainer (left hand margin again). Keep playing until you know Basic Strategy inside and out and can't stand playing against it anymore, but keep playing against it anyway. When you feel comfortable with Basic Strategy and make zero errors for hours on end, then you can move on to learning all the indices for the game and system you'll be using. Once again, practice using your indices and betting ramp against the Strategy Trainer (or better yet against software created for counting such as Casino Verite). Lastly, don't attempt to count in a casino environment until you've secured a bankroll of $10,000 or greater and don't play stakes any higher than $5 minimum tables until you've significantly increased your bankroll.

It's too easy to go broke playing with a $5000 bankroll. I know-it's happened to me twice.

LOL..don't get me wrong 21gun......but to scrape together 10g for most of the people I know would take oh say 20 years if ever!!!
You have to start somewhere 10g Is tough, 5g fairly hard, now 3g just to test the waters and see if you have the discipline and drive is prob more realistic.
A lot of people only make between 7 and 15 bucks an hour. Try to save 10g on those wages. Yikes!!!!!
You are absolutely correct that 10g should be a minimum, but I'm not so sure we would have any AP's ccing if it was a requirement:grin:
And or you 21Gun.......3rd time was a charm????

Gotta agree with you here Mac but I understand 21gun's thought. Risk wise 10k is best but there aren't many that have that kind of disposible income to sink into a BJ roll. Most of us have expenses damn close to our incomes, unfortunately. That means that there are some that go bust and either have to regroup or give up all together. Kind of a weeding out, if you will.

I myself started with much less, basically 1k was all I had. Lost it all and another $50 from my pocket playing nickel tables over a couple weeks. I was able to scrape another $200 bucks for another session (basically 4 max bets) and the rest, as they say, is history.

Gotta love that run of pos variance.

Buy Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong if you are learning the High-Low system. It is the Bible for that system and a good reference to have for any conceivable rule you may encounter in the future. Read it through several times before asking any question here.

You will not beat the dealer all the time - no matter what system/strategy you use or how well you use it, even with computer play.

Well i know i can't beath the dealer all the time.But i was thinking of it.
Card counting just informs me if i take the lead in the specific hand.
It is up to me to bet either high or low money,right?

TC = RC/(decks unused)

You are trying to determine the density of the average deck in the unused shoe, not the used cards.
