Craps for cover and comps

I try to play an hour of green chip craps - pass or don't only, no odds - every comped visit. At a crowded table, how many bets should I expect to win or lose, on average, in that hour? And how many comp $ should I expect per hour?

I would bet a black on the dont pass, $20 any 7 and $5 yo 11, and then place the point for $80 if 6 or 8, $70 if 5 or 9, and $50 if 4 or 10. Then place an equal amount on 5,6,8,9 (except the point).

You get credit for betting over $200 per point at a low variance to you, which can rack up comps pretty fast. You just need to bet that often enough, especially when the pit boss is looking. They just record your total action, not how you're betting. Most people just bet on one side, usually the pass side, but you're going to hedge your bets by betting on both sides to reduce the variance. I did that a few times to get Harrah's Platinum within 2 weeks. I'm sure I could have done a few more sessions of that to get Diamond but I get plenty of comps at the Platinum level. It's nice that I can get free rooms in any place with a Harrah's property even on a weekend. I used the points for free buffets when I was in Vegas and to buy used decks of cards to help me practice my deck estimation.

If you do that, wait till a day when they multiply your comp points. You're going to get a lot of them! This will likely cost you less than feeding $200 into a slot machine till it's gone, and you have a better chance of breaking even or better.

Answered my first question thanks to WoO site: With 11 players at craps, there will be 102 rolls per hour on average, of which 29.6% (= 30) will be come out rolls. So you will get 30 win/lose decisions per hour on pass/don't. This compares to 60 or 70 rounds per hour at a crowded BJ table. Thus, comp $ per hour should be much lower, holding bet size constant, for craps compared to BJ.

But if you make all those offsetting bets like I explained earlier, your total action is recorded. You lose close to expected value with not much variance. The only real factor that would affect variance would be come out 7's or 11's.

You don't have to believe me but doing that at a Harrah's store in AC a couple times for a few hours each got me Platinum status. My actual losses were less than my comps (since I played on 5x multiplier days) so I even made some money doing that. That got me free hotel rooms in AC and Vegas even on weekends.

You don't have to bet every shooter. If you want, just bet $50 on the pass or come (or the respective dont) when the pit boss is looking. Play on a busy night and the pit boss won't be looking often and if he looks, it'll be a cursory glance since he won't know you're not making place bets or hardways. When I played craps for comps, I didn't bet every point.

At the minimum, when you first get to the table and hand your card to the pit boss, play $44 inside and $50 on the pass or dont. You can take off your place bets when the pit boss isn't looking. Then bet $25 on the pass/dont for hours. You'd be rated as a $94 player rather than a $25 player.
