Craps Odds ?

I'm having a little trouble really understanding taking odds in craps. I understand the concept, but not the amounts.

Let's start in AC with 5x odds. Taking full odds on a $10 line bet = $50 across the board, but on a $30 line bet 4 and 10 = $150, 5 and 9 = $200, while 6 and 8 = $250. It's been a few years since I've been in school, but I'm pretty sure that 5 times $30 does not equal $250.

Now lets look at the 3x 4x 5x odds, like at Mohegan Sun, where I was this past weekend. The way I understand that to work is that the payout is the same on all points, because the max on a $10 line bet is $30 for 4 and 10, $40 for 5 and 9, and $50 for 6 and 8. Then why on a $25 table full odds on 4, 6, 8, and 10 were all $125 and 5 and 9 were $150? That throws the 3,4,5 right out the window. In a 3,4,5 house, would a $30 line bet allow the same odds as a 5x house?

Now to make me more confused, how different is it in a house that offers 10x, 20x or even 25x?

Not sure why a house that allows 5X odds on line bets would limit you to a 3X-4X-5X scheme like you described in the first paragraph. Some casinos will advertise 5X odds in promotions, billboards, and in the casino itself, but actually only have a few tables with 5X across the board. The rest may be 3X-4X-5X like you mentioned.

I'm really not sure about the Mohegan Sun confusion you ran into.

Think of it similar to how casinos have H17 and S17 tables...you have to look at the layout/placard with the rules on it to know what you are dealing with.

good luck

Actually in the first paragraph, the $30 bet pulls 5x at $150, but the $200 on 5 and 9 is actually 6.67x and $250 on 6 and 8 is actually 8.33x. It's more than 3,4,5x. The only way I found out these numbers was I had a $30 come bet and a 6 was rolled. I threw in $150 for odds and the dealer said I could go up to $250. He explained the other numbers to me as well, but said if my line or come bet was only $25, then the odds could only be $125 on 4, 6, 8, 10 and $130 on 5 and 9, which really is 5x.

I see now...was going off of the $50 mentioned right before that (there's a lot of dollar amounts in there! :( ), which would be 3-4-5. I'll tell ya what, I've played a lot of craps and have got some good AP stuff going on these days, but I'm not familiar with the odds schemes you've been running into!

As a matter of fact, I am a heavy Place bettor when I am shooting and honestly rely more on the Line bet than the Odds bet when I shoot as well. I'm looking at the Pass Line bet as a was to win on comeout naturals, and the point cycle as a time to rack up Place bet wins. When others shoot, I'm strictly Place 6/8. Not exciting, but profitable. Sorry about derailing on the way I play.

Hope you get your question answered! good luck
