Dealer mistakes!

There are dealers that make mistakes and it can cost the player or the casino money. I think that when you are playing you should definitly make sure that the dealer takes your money rightfully and pays you rightfully. If the dealer bonouces back and forth between 6 to 5 and full pay the dealer might mistakenally pay you 6 to 5 on the 3 to 2 game. Have you ever made a like 4 or 5 card 20 and the dealer gets 20 and takes your money. The best idea is to speak up and say hay I got 20 what did you get. Or the dealer might pay you when he is not supposed to pay you like the dealer gets a 17 and you have a 3 card 16. You are sitting on second base and the first 3 players in front of you have winning hands and the dealer gets into pay mode and pays you by mistake. A lot of ev can be lost if you lose a $20 bet that you really won because the dealer made an error and took your bet by mistake.

I hope you're not speaking from personal experience here. BTW, when are you going to let me whoop your 6:5 table? I'll be up there in a couple of weeks. Let's get ready to rumble!!

I take all dealer mistakes if he or she pays me when I am not suppose to get paid I shut my mouth and take the money. If they try and take my bet when they are not suppose to I correct them. I consider takeing dealer mistakes part of my EV and the casino loss.

my experience from last night....

On the table where I was playing, the dealer - a VERY NEW dealer, had an Ace up, Ace underneath, drew a 7, counted it as NINE, and kept drawing! He then drew a 4, and a 10 for 23. Paid the entire table - $20 bet paid to me!

I've been playing Blackjack for 7 years. Only seen dealers make a mistake on my hand twice. Both times i got paid on a push.

I was taught when I started playing BJ to always count my card total and the dealers card total, and never trust the dealer. This has proven to be really helpful because in the Miss. casinos I frequent, the dealers sometimes are not really that good, and do not need to be trusted. However, I have no problem when they pay me on a loss. Recently I had a dealer pay me on a blackjack, but failed to pick-up my cards, I pulled the win back, after she played her hand, to my suprize she paid me the blackjack again. No complaints of course.

I might see a mistake in either direction, on my hand twice per day on the average and without knowing you or knowing just how accurate your dealers are (they are human), my only suggestion would be to make sure you are always paying attention.
I think you may have missed a few.

I do pay close attention, although you're right I probably missed a mistake here or there! I am human just like the dealers.

Well, they can only cost the player money if you're not paying attention:)
It sure felt like paying attention cost me money once when the dealer started paying unsuited matches at suited match rate in SP21. Did it 3 times. Of course I started playing it. She did it a few more times while I played it. Of course nobody said a word. Eventually she got it right after I played it a bunch of hands with no matches at all of course lol.

All you have to do it tell the dealer to pay you out!!!! simple as that..
lol.

That's what this guy next to me tried to do after the dealer paid me instead of him thinking his cards were mine. And it was my bet for the next round too lol. Then she took his cards and $25. Of course he told the dealer. Too bad he only spoke Hungarian!

They were gonna go to the tapes but after 5 minutes the PB guy just said pay the guy. That was good news for me so I didn't have to pay my bet back lol.

Never seen so many dealer mistakes as last trip and weird ones too. Forgetting to check for BJ - then surprise and just letting all bets stand! Twice! Letting third base hit after exposing hole card. More than once. Letting me double at first base after he showed the next card to the next guy but still gave it to me. Got paid 3-2 initially instead of 3-1. Stealing pushes 3 times for people sitting next to me. At least they all said "Thank you" lol.

Speaking of Sp21, I've gotten the dealer to do an Early Surrender a few times by announcing Surrender when she asks for insurance.

It's About Ethics

Some may take a dealer mistake and some won't based on their personal ethics.

Now some will try to foster mistakes. Which is another question and again comes down to their personal ethics. I imagine a casino would be far less understanding of someone trying to foster dealer errors.

Just recently a dealer was accidentally paying a pushed bet. Caught it after paying the chips out, apologized and took them back (player didn't throw a fit or anything). But she did mention something "In dealer school, one of the first things they teach you is 'if in doubt, take the money, because it's always easier to return it than it is to collect it'"

Dealer mistakes are more common then most players know. Don't let the dealer be the final word on your total. With all the casino expansions and normal help turn over, there are plenty of newbie dealers. In fact, I can spot them in 30-60 seconds. Many players exploit them, I do not. Also be weary of the chatty Kathies, they will pay losers and muck winners. I always point out all mistakes on my hands regardless if it benifits me or the house. I have had to ask the pit to review too many hands over the years and believe my word to more valuable then even a table limit bet. I never point out other player's/ dealer errors. If you count and you want longevity, then don't be the table monitor...it's not your job. Remember, most of the pit supervision comes up through the ranks and befriending dealers is just good business. Someday they might make the decision to let you play or get backed off.

I like that idea - thanks.

This last trip they let my neighbor play my match bet and when she got a perfect match she'd throw me 1 to 3 chips.

Then the male PB came by and said that wasn't allowed and told off the dealer. So then, she'd pinch my leg under the table whenever she wanted me to make her bet and work it out later. (Out of my chips instead of the other way when she'd slide me her chip and I physically put it in my circle).

Then my wife came by and ruined that method lol.

But then the female PB came by, noticed we we weren't doing it anymore, we told her why, and she said we were allowed to do it if everybody was happy.

I asked if she was the boss of the other guy and she said she was so that was cool lol.

I don't really get why a casino would disallow extra money on a profitable side bet.

I've seen aurguments break out over people expecting tips when "their" bet wins,
I suppose that's very possible for sure and why they may tend to just say "no" so they don't have to deal with it. I don't really care or expect any "rent" though. I'm not that big of a jerk to want a tip when they win but pay nothing when they lose. I feel bad enough they are even doing it. Never received "rent" on their winning bet before - was new to me lol.
