Dealing order

This is probably an easy one, but is there a set order for the order in which a dealer gives out the cards? I'm new to blackjack (about three weeks of reading and a 3 day Vegas trip worth of experience) and didn't really give this any thought at all until yesterday.

I popped into the local casino, which is *very* small. Three BJ tables among eight total tables. The dealer gave herself one face-up card, then dealt to the rest of the table. We would all play our hands, and *then* she would give herself her second card and continue from there.

I am of course used to the dealer having both cards, checking for BJ, etc as they did at the casinos in Vegas I played in. I tried to remember the exact order of card dealing there but can't.

What do most places do? Dealer gets face down, we all get one card, then dealer gets face up, and then we get our second cards?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question. :)

Thanks.

Most casinos in the US will take two cards and check for a BJ right away before anyone plays (other than insurance). Taking the seconds card after the players have played their hands is mostly a European thing.

As for usual Vegas dealing order, I think it's safe to say most casinos deal the players' first cards (from dealer's left to right), then dealer first card, players' second cards, and finally dealer second card. Players then play out their hands if the dealer doesn't have blackjack.
