Dealt one card only

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your comments in advance. I was playing the usual hand-dealt SD game the other day and was dealt one card only. The dealt proceeded to respond to the first base and his/her hand played out (stood). I was tired, didn't think twice, and told the dealer. The dealer asked for the pit boss, and he burnt my hand, but let the first base continue to play out his hand.

Come to think about it, should I have acted normal, start to hit with the one card, see if I make a 21 (or something favorable to the dealer's up card), before consider reporting to the dealer/pit boss?

For me it would depend on what my first card was. If I got a 10 or A of course I would try to play it. If it's a worse card I would report it and get out of the hand. I don't think playing the hand and then complaining is the route to go though. It will be obvious to everyone what you did and you don't want the pit and dealer to constantly think you're trying to pull one over on them.

The funniest one I saw was this idiot dealer at Three Card Poker, who was so busy chatting with a player that it took her about a minute and a half to deal the cards (hand dealt). She then completely forgot to give herself a third card, and put the stub of the deck in the discard hopper. The table played out the entire hand until she finally spread her hand face up. Realizing she only had two cards, she just casually reached into the discards, and took the top card as her own.

Don't give it a second thought.

This girl was EXTREMELY lucky that the pit boss, or surveillance didn't catch her doing that. BIG time write-up offense.

You should not be able to lose on that hand

As mentioned, that dealer destroyed the casino's procedure and would probably get written up.
If the hand plays and she loses you just take the money and do not say a word.
Should she pull a card from the discards that helps her hand, then you bust her by calling the pit. Any reasonable pit will have the winners paid and the losers pushed.
