Disguises

If you go to the same place pretty frequently, like at least once a week or even more frequently, do you do anything to try not to get recognized? Or is that hard to do? Do you dress differently?

You might get better results if you have one thread with a title something like " Newcomer with a few questions" than starting a new thread for every one of your many questions.

If I go to the same place IN-frequently, I'm much more likely to give them a different look; but if it's a place where I go often enough that they start to know me, I usually just try to play off of THAT image. I feel that if I were to try to disguise myself, it just runs too much risk of someone recognizing me anyway. For obvious reasons, the last thing I would want would be for someone who knows me anyway to start wondering "Why is he trying to disguise himself?".

I think it all depends on the amount you visit and the amount of your betting. I go to a place a few times a week and have noticed that if you're betting red or green, I don't think they bother watching anyone. It's only when you start betting black that they start to watch. It's weird because this place is like anal about the black chips and when people color them up and everything but if you have 4 greens it's not the same. Strange to me. But anyway, I also just try to keep quiet and I'll converse with the other people playing from time to time but I don't talk to the pit bosses at all like some people do. I don't want them to start recognizing me. Every now and then I'll wear a hat or put my glasses on instead of my contacts. I've noticed that if i wear my hat and glasses, I look different and someone that doesn't know me wouldn't recognize me right away.

It can be difficult - I go to the same place pretty frequently and the dealers and floor ppl get to know you eventually. I'm not a fan of the disguises - I was at a table at Mand. Bay with a guy wearing dark glasses and a baseball hat who claimed he left his ID in the room when they offered to make him a players card. Personally, that just screams: "This guy is counting" to me... Sure enough, his bets seemed to go up at the same time as mine - sigh time to find another table :)

I wonder if it was one of you guys? :)

Heres what seemed to work for me over the years. I dont think they ever had a clue.
Wow, if your own family didn't recognize you as you played at the kitchen table you must be some disguise artist.

I will at times try to hide these incredible features of mine so I may get to play longer. But at the same time its almost a damn crime to deprive the world of beautiful people so I use disguises sparingly.

Using a disguise at a local place that you're often seen at is probably a terrible idea (see Sucker's post). If you want to play a good game out of town at a place you've been backed off at, it's probably a good idea. Either way, the recent group of posts you've been making seem to be getting a little ahead of themselves; when you get to the level in the game where disguises become a thing to think about (I haven't), then you likely won't need to ask. I know that sounds unhelpful, but I am trying to make your life a little easier. A pit boss looking and pointing at your table doesn't mean you've been "spotted" and you probably don't need to be worrying about changing your name or appearance at this stage, either. Good luck!

the other day i declined getting a player's card and the pb remembered that she had given me one before..and that was 2.5 months prior

she eventually gave up after i kept insisting that i hadn't ever got one. but i don't think she was convinced :\

There's always a way to be creative with excuses. For example, "my wife checks my account online, so I don't use it any more."
