do experienced APs practice?

The other day after a relatively long hiatus from blackjack, I was playing in an ENHC game and ended up with 88 v T. I opted to stay, because the count was positive, but moments later I remembered I was playing in an ES 10 game and had the option to surrender instead! Obviously not a huge deal, mistakes happen especially when you are a bit rusty, but could this fiasco have been prevented by some warm-up practice at home first? What do you do to stay sharp if you haven't been playing on a daily basis?

I guess in particular when trying out a new trick, like cutting a card into play 11 cards in, practice is especially important. To some degree basic strategy and index plays become so ingrained that it would be impossible to make a mistake, but then you switch up the rules and it might become a little easier to err, as you need to unlearn what you have learned. I guess the skill cap for counting cards isn't quite as high as some other highly competitive endeavours.
