Hi There my name is Nathan and i have become very intereted in proffesional black jack which a friend of mine is trying to teach me. I have come across this site and its a new world its excellent.

I was just wondering if there are many people on this forum that actually play this game proffesional and treat it as a job?? any insight would be good. and also would there be anyone that BJ has turned in to a millionaire lol just curious.

I have been told to Get Stanford wongs BJ book its the one with the green cover??

Does this sound like the best book to get?

Kind Regards

hey Nathan, i'm not a pro. one thing about playing professionaly is you have no paid health care, no pension ect. also you have to be willing to put a lot of money at risk inorder to put your self in position to make a lot of money.
Professional Blackjack is a very good book. i wish the first blackjack book that i had read would have been John May's Get the Edge in Blackjack. it gives a good overall picture of a lot of what it's all about.
best regards,
mr fr0g :D

I think the answer to your question is, not many people play blackjack as a professional. However most good advantage players professional or not treat playing this game like a job. That doesn't mean it has to be a miserable task, you can have fun at your job, but you also must be trained to perform it at a worthy level. Unfortunately I also have never met a professional player that wasn't trained by another professional. There are many good how to books on playing advantage blackjack, Stanford Wong's being one of them, that can give you knowledge, but they can't play the game for you.

I would never suggest to anyone to play this game professionally because quite honestly most people are not cut out for it. Thats not a knock on anyone but its a truth that most already know. It doesn't take having a million dollars to play this game at a professional level, it takes being good enough to impress someone into giving you a million dollars. Thats when you might have what it takes to at least try. Another gauge is if you were given a millon dollars with no strings attached would you put in a bank or a mutual fund or some other so called safe investment, or would you invest it in yourself and your capabilities of performing your craft at the utmost highest level. Most would pick the first option, and that really is the right one. If you picked the second one you're either very stupid or very good, and it will be a costly mistake to find out which one you are if you are found lacking. But you will have had the professional mentality, just not the skills, which is most times the case with would be professionals. I have been playing blackjack for a while now but I do not gamble. If you can distinguish between gambling and advantage play than you might have a chance in playing for a profit. Take that step first before even thinking about anything more.

Also, being a professional advantage player is not limited to just blackjack. There are many other great ways of getting an advantage. If you use several different ways of getting an advantage it is much easier to extend your life as an AP.
