Dreaded Party Pit

My wife and I recently experienced the "party pit".
They put tie-dyed felt on the 4 BJ tables at the end of one pit. I was thinkin' ...okay... whatever, they are really promoting this.
We start playing, and the pit boss, oops , I mean "floor person" hooks up his
I-Pad to a nice little Peavy speaker cabinet with a nice "little" 12" speaker and CRANKS up the rap. In fairness, there was some R & B mixed in, but mostly rap.
I couldn't hear sh*t. Could barely communicate with my wife. It was a really obnoxious idea by the casino. And not just because rap ain't my thing. It was friggin loud.
Has anyone else experienced this new wrinkle at the stores.
I really don't want to listen to ANYONES personal playlist at the casino.

In all seriousness, at the largest mall near me macy's started having a dj playing techno and heavy rap music in club-sized speakers so everybody within a 20-store radius can listen to all the gangster rap they want (with large subwoofers for extra bass) at 10am.... I guess the grandma's these days are pretty with it!

I know it had nothing to do with blackjack party pits, but I couldn't resist sharing

Not exactly, but I remember when they first opened the Pleasure Pit at planet hollywood, the dancing girls were so wack I had no trouble keeping the count. As the girls improved, I had more difficuty with the cun... er... a... the count.

Loud music as a withdrawing effect on me. I once went to a concert that was so loud, both the band and the audience, that I completely withdrew. I felt like a bubble floating in a sea of chaos, but nothing could get through to me. It was like the bubble walls protected me from everything external. People were screaming and jumping around and I was sitting there all peaceful and relaxed. I wonder if there's something wrong with me? lol It is helpful playing jack, but I don't like the fact that I can't hear my phone which I sometimes hold concealed in my hand so that I can feel the rather weak vibrator mode.

zoning out!

Aslan you experienced the same thing as trauma patient would that was in a bad accident. The human body can only process so much and then it shuts itself down to protect itself. Prolonged exposure to loud noises and intense activity causes the body to what we call zoning out. It's the body's natural response to what it precieves as an attack. I try to avoid such overloads to protect my nerve endings in the first place.

Are they still going that route downtown? I always thought that the appeal of downtown Vegas was the history and the old-school feel of the places down there. I remember hanging out in the Golden Gate and I asked when the pianist would be on in the lounge—I was informed that he no longer performs there, as they'd replaced him with the party pit girls. At the Golden Gate, of all places. That's almost as shameful as their shoe game penetration.

Party pits do have some value, though, if you can stand the awful top-40 hip hop nonsense. Maybe I'm getting old.

I think Blackchipjim got it right in his post-- I just zone out. I am actually very relaxed and in full control of my mental faculties, but completely unaffected by the emotional content and frenzy around me. There have been times at bj, however, when some obnoxious s.o.b. makes it impossible for me to zone out. Then I wind up leaving, if I know what's good for me, because I cannot play when someone gets under my skin. If I stay, my attention seems scattered and I am prone to errors.

assume_R, yes the granny's are pretty with the big sub-woofers.
Back in the day, this one band I was in used two ported JBL "bass bins" on each side of the stage. Each cabinet loaded with a single 15", or maybe an 18" speaker, with an 800 watt amp for each I think, memory is fuzzy . Anyway the groupies would sit right damned in front of these things. Keyboard player used to joke that it was the "VPL"s they liked.
Vibrating P**** Lips. Apologies to our lady members and anyone else.
Crude but true

Well that's LV for you, has been for a while. Are they familiar with any culture other than LA gangster culture? When I go on a mission, I do little other than play, eat and sleep.

It's a shame because the city has so much potential, they could attract so many different demographics there. But they all seem interested in the same one.

Auto Monk, we really should wonder about the "younger " marketing people running these multi-gazillion corporations. Or are we ( 45 to 65 ) that far out of the loop ?????
Wasn't LV (ten or less) years ago, marketing itself as a "family friendly" getaway? What happened ???

The "family friendly" marketing effort failed. They are doing far better with "what happens in Vegas, stays...." Actually, the Vegas appeal and Vegas marketing vary widely, but a fun vacation and the lure of striking it rich are still high on the list, although hardly anyone will admit to the latter.
