Drinks

One very important topic that i don't think we've discussed is what drinks to get. I'm doing a 3 day trip to turning stone and would like as many suggestions as possible. I'm talking free, non-alcoholic beverages here.
Also if you think about it, you could probably drink 3 drinks an hour, which, if you are a red chipper, might be more than you can actually make by counting. So far all i've had is coke and water. what other drinks are available other than pop?

Supercoolmancool to the rescue! Drinks are NOT +EV. That is a common misconception among advantage players. Actually almost NOTHING the casino has to offer is +EV. Maybe I shouldn't even be discussing this in a public forum but oh well. The only way that drinks, or anything for that matter, can be considered +EV is if you would buy them if the casino didn't give them away at the same cost!!!!!!! Or if you plan on selling it.

You could maybe get girlie versions of real drinks, like shirlie temples and roy rogers's. They'll have red bull too, if you want a new kind of freakout. Incidentally, few years ago at the Ameristar in KC, I asked for some milk (had heartburn) and they didn't have any!

Ya know, none of the places down here have free booze, and just last weekend I was in Reno. So I was like "hey, free liquor", and I learned just how weak the free drinks are. I'm pretty much a lightweight and they didn't phase me at all (which is good, I was busy and all).

Course, the free drinks aren't really free, you gotta tip the waitress if you don't want to be a tool. That's why, if it's a joint where soda is free by way of a soda fountain, I won't waste the waitress's time with that stuff.

I disagree.

As long as you want the drink, and the drink won't affect your actual playing EV (getting too drunk) then it is +EV. If you know your limit then I say take all the free drinks you can until you hit the point where it will affect your play.

It's just like when we were at Shooting Star, we keep taking all the food they offered, because it is worth something to us. We wouldn't have normally bought it had they not offered it to us, but we still took it.

I tend to gravitate towards drinks with a perceived nutritional or pharmeceutical value.

Bloody Mary's, Screwdrivers/Greyhounds, Rums and Cokes, Vodkas and Red Bulls.

Usually because I'm either hungry or tired. And hey. Free drinks.

I drink Corona's.Two or three in the first hour or so,then I slow it down bigtime. Its light enough that I don't get buzzed but gives me a good reason to run to the boys room every 20 minutes or so.
Squeezing the lemon into the bottle is a good way to accidently spill your drink,as well.
When I'm about done for the day,I might bang out a LI Iced Tea or a double Frangelica.

Turning Stone doesn't serve alcohol. At last they didn't last time I was there. Red Bull? Are you kidding? Casinos serve the cheapest stuff they can find, I've never seen Red Bull or Rockstar served for free at one.

I was at a table with a guy drinking Red Bull and he was so shaky he could hardly pick up a chip without knocking his pile over!

Scotch and milk is good if you have been saucing for a few days and the gut is wrenched.

Water is basically free. After you drink the drink the EV is gone and you are left with nothing.

Yes but you can't incorporate that to inflate your EV. Let me explain. See, had I not gone to the casino, I would have eaten food from my house that my parents paid for. Thus eating the food at the casino really isn't +EV. My main point is that he said that the drinks are more +EV than the blackjack game is for red chipers. Let's say they give out free $1000 drinks, but you can't take them out and sell them. You are not EVing $3000/hour if you drink 3 drinks. It is a pit many people fall prey to.

i of course can't speak for you, but for me, it does inflate my ev. if i was getting comped food and drinks, to me, its better than nothing, so i'll take it. for instance i'd rather be at a table drinking continuously and taking a $5 an hour ev cut. so anyway, i've seen a lot of people order things like hot chocolate (or is it some kind of capacinno thing?)

Tomato Juice. All the way.

It's thirst quenching, AND it's nutritious. Vitamins and all that. Especially if they serve V8. It'll keep your brain going.

I agree with that aspect of it. The only EV you can really get out of the drink is the personal satisfaction from the actual drink. The price has nothing to do with how much value you are getting, it's the satisfaction you get from drinking whatever it is you are drinking.

If drinks are a necessary expense for you, you're an alcoholic and you shouldn't be drinking, nor playing in a casino until you get the problem under control.

Lecture over. As a guy who believes in the health benefits of drinking a respectable amount of alcohol, I'm going to have 4-5 drinks over a 24 hour period anyway, so if I'm getting some decent ones for the price of a tip, that's a good deal. I've been known to have maybe 6 drinks over a couple of hours of play, but for a 300 lb. guy like me according to the charts I'm still OK to drive, especially with the light drinks they serve in casinos. All the camera sees is this big ape yelling and goofing off with a drink in his hand all the time.

Why wouldn't free drinks add to your EV? Don't know about you, but I think it is a little odd for someone not to be able to have a beer or something and all of a sudden not be able to concentrate. I'm not trying to say you HAVE to drink at the casino, but I think it's not necessarily great advice for someone to say never drink if you want to win.

My answer for the original question: ginger ale is always a favorite, but tomato juice is excellent

are you guys actually serious about tomato juice?? i'll have to pass

basically i'm all about getting hte most bang for my buck, and i figure if gonna be sitting around counting cards, i'll be a lot easier to do it while sipping something. i'd prefer something non-alcoholic as i'm not experienced enough to try and mix the two.

I know a few that have to have a few in them to even appear at the tables. They sit down at the table to get out of reality. Fortunately they can afford to do this.
