Victor Piturca cheats; not only in his job, as a trainer, but also on his casino gamblers. This is a fact resulting from a recording put forth by "Cancan" and confirmed by the revealings of some sources from Bucharest Casino Palace for "Adevarul".

In the evening of September 17 2002, during his trainership for Steaua, Piturca was caught by Casino Palace employees using a cheating device, at a Black-Jack ("21") game. The present spotter, also called "Satan", set a small camera that could "saw" the cards dealt out, in a pack of cigarettes that he used to keep on the table. With the help of a couple of accomplices sitting in a car, Piturca was receiving the information through a headphone.

Caughting him cheating, the people from the casino seized him the $40.000 earned that night. But, the trainer still had the $200.000 won with previous ocasions. After the incident, Piturca was laid under the interdiction of entering casinos for six months!

The "Palace" episode was confirmed yesterday by Gigi Becali, too. "Nobody in this country has done anything similar to what Piturca did in the casino. He is bad !(...) I didn't have the guts to do it, but he did it" said admiringly Steaua's owner. In the '80s, when Piturca used to be a member of Pandurii Targu Jiu team, he was condemned for secret gambling games played with dice.

He was this year's coach of Romania's National UEFA Cup Team.

Gigi Becali, the owner of Steaua, the team he was the trainer for when this incident happened, is currently under investigation for trying to bribe an opposing team 1 million euros to give them more incentive to beat a team Steaua was in league contention with.

One of the sticky points of letting Romania join the EU was the potential backlash of letting the rest of Europe become overrun with devious clever Romanians. Not to be confused with gypsies, which Romania contains the largest population of.

as small and cheap as cameras are today, this could be done very simply.
I like the idea of using a casinos own black chip, and inserting a similar device. then at the table, simply switch one black with the camera chip in a pants pocket.

I hope they won more than 240 bucks!

Except - you'd wind up tipping the cocktail waitress with it! zg

BUCHAREST, Romania - Romania national soccer coach Victor Piturca was briefly detained by anti-corruption prosecutors Thursday as part of an investigation into match-fixing in the domestic league.

Piturca was taken by two prosecutors as he landed at Bucharest airport to give testimony at the National Department for Anti-Corruption on suspicion of aiding a criminal. He was later released.

Piturca is suspected of giving false testimony to cover up for Steaua Bucharest owner Gigi Becali, who is being investigated in the match-fixing case.

Becali is accused of offering US$2.6 million to CFR Cluj in June to fix the last match of the Romanian league and help Steaua win the title. Steaua lost and police arrested several people who were carrying money in a suitcase.

Piturca has said that the money was for a real estate deal in Cluj and not for match-fixing.

Piturca flew back from Austria on Thursday after watching a World Cup qualifier between Serbia and Austria. Romania, which drew 2-2 with France on Saturday, is in the same group.

Piturca had previously ignored summons by the anti-corruption's office to give testimony, the office said.

He said the way he had been detained at the airport was "an abuse."

Dumitru Dragomir, head of Romania's Professional Soccer League, called the detention an abuse, saying Piturca had been treated like a common criminal. He called for the resignation of the officials involved.

Romania is under pressure to combat corruption. Corruption in soccer, including match-fixing, is reported to be widespread in Romania.
