Hey everyone. Been reading this site for a while just never needed to post until now. I've got BS down now and have been doing a lot of reading on the different counting systems. I was wondering if y'all could give me a bit of advice. I can't decide which one to choose. Any advice for a first system would be appreciated. Also, what book(s) this system could be found in would be appreciated as well. Thanks for any help and keep up the great discussions.

i like Hi/Lo myself. it seems to me the most fundamental of them all. if you uderstand Hi/Lo you should be able to move on to most any other system with ease. also an understanding of Hi/Lo gives me a sense of having a fundamental understanding of what it is we as advantage players are overall trying to achieve. much of the literature bases it's explainations on an understanding of Hi/Lo or uses Hi/Lo as a benchmark. there are three books i like best with regards to HiLo they are John May's Get the Edge At Blackjack, Stanford Wong's Professional Blackjack and Don Schlesinger's Blackjack Attack.
irregardless of my recommendations i'd advise that what ever system you choose just be careful as you read the literature to realize that much that is presented is system specific information and that if one wants to use such system specific information to their advantage for a differant system then you need to correlate it from one system to another. this is especially true if you are trying to use some technique described by the author of an unbalanced system to that of a balanced system and vice-a-versa.

best regards,

Before you decide which counting system you want to use. Figure out what kind of games you will be playing most of the time. Arnold Snyder's Big book of Blackjack, Blackbelt in Blackjack and Kevin Blackwood's Playing Blackjack like the Pros are great books.

I'm a fan of the Red 7 Count.

Read about it and others (such as the Hi/Lo and Zen) in Blackbelt in Blackjack, by Arnold Snyder.

Take stock of your own aptitudes and how much (and where) you think you'll be playing.

Try to practice them out to get a feel for it (kitchen table, software, etc).

For instance, personally, I find the whole process of counting to be quite difficult, and metal division is always tricky for me, so I'm working on one of the simplest systems I can find (KO).

thanks

Thanks for the help.

I've read Blackbelt in Blackjack (Snyder), Blackjack as a Business (Revere), and The Worlds Greatest Blackjack Book (Humble and Cooper). I'm probably going to get Wong's book and learn hi/lo, but does anyone have any other suggestions for a good next book or two after these?

avs, I've come to realize that the games I'll be playing in most will vary a lot, however a six deck game is probably what I'll be playing most. I'm near the riverboats in louisiana, especially shreveport-bossier city casinos. If that helps narrow down the types of games I'd be frequenting.

If Vicksburg isn't that much farther for you I would recommend checking it out. They are known for having high heat, but I didn't expierence any when I stopped by.
