First Trip to Vegas

I am planning my first trip to Las Vegas and I have a few questions before I leave. There isn't much free time in my schedule so this trip will take place over a weekend. I plan on playing blackjack and I am not a card counter, so I'll just be using basic strategy. My bankroll is quite substantial (six figures) and I plan to bet around $1000 or so per hand. As far as game selection goes, I am seeking the s17 games as they appear to have a lower house edge in comparison to the h17 games.

Is there an advantage to playing at just one casino or should I try several different casinos?

What is the best way for establishing a bankroll at the casino? Should I use a traveler's check and if so, will the casino cash a traveler's check?

When I am finished playing, I take it the casino will change my chips into cash?

Any recommendation for where to play and/or stay?

Since you are only playing basic strategy I would suggest games with a very low house edge like the Mirage's double deck game. It is S17 and double after split for a low house edge of .18%. Just play there and you will accumulate huge comps in your short stay. At 1000 bucks a hand they will comp your hotel room and invite you back for free in the future. Play at a table with lots of other players, chat with the players and dealers and keep the game to a crawl. Make sure you use the correct basic strategy, check the strategy engine on this site and stick to basic strategy the whole time.

Yes the casino will cash travellers cheques and they will pay your chips in cash.

The best thing you can do right away before your trip is get a copy of Comp City by Max Rubin. Betting 1000 per hand can earn you some terrific comps including airfare reimbursement for you and your wife.

To me the best rooms in Vegas are at Venetian, but Bellagio is also good and I hear Wynn is great but have never stayed there.

I've never seen a $100,000 Travelers Check. I'm not sure a casino would cash it. I don't know who would.

Thanks everyone for replying. I just talked to my bank and as long as I have 7 days of notice, I can withdraw the amount I need once I am in Las Vegas.

At $1,000 per hand, your choice of where to play might be driven more by how well they comp rather than how good the game is. A 0.1% difference in how they comp might outweigh a 0.1% difference in house rules.

Seeing as one bet of yours will be twice my trip bankroll on my first Vegas trip, I really have no advice. Good luck!

Here is some more advice.

Call Wynn, Venetian, and Bellagio and ask to speak to a host. Tell them you want to open a line of credit for 100k, bet $1000 average bet, and ask what they will do for you? You might be able to get a 10% loss rebate in addition to all other comps.

hey mav how bout i go out to vegas at the same time.....you play your $1,000 a hand and have fun.......let me borrow half of your bankroll to work with and i'll win some money for you and i'll give you half the profit plus the initial half of your bankroll. figured it was worth a shot.

a few years ago when i was doing some corporate flying we flew steve forbes one day and i was tempted to ask if i could just borrow $1 million and just put it in the bank to collect the interest and after a year i'd give it back. needless to say i didn't ask him cause i woulda lost my job but hell i ain't got a job to loose now so i figured why not ask haha

Let me see if I have this straight: You have at least a $100,000 bankroll. You're going to Vegas for the FIRST time. You are betting $1000 a hand. And you DON'T count cards. AND you're not sure if the casino will change your chips into cash? Riiiight! Did InPlay put you up to this? :grin:

Best thing I can say is stick to that $1000 flat bet. No steaming or you'll be overbetting your humongous bankroll. Good Luck, you'll need it.
