Monday & Tuesday marked my fourth BJ outing to AC. Started off $550 winner in the first hour or two at the Taj Mahal. Everyone’s experienced this—what do you do? Drive 3 hours back home? Heck no! Decided to keep gambling. Played BJ all day to find myself $450 stuck including the $550 I had won earlier…and guess what…they raised the table limit from $10 to $15. I complained to the pit. Told him I might just go to the Borgata where they always have $10 tables. He said, “Good luck!” So that’s what we did. Played slots (entertainment) and BJ (albeit at a $15 table) at Borgata all night and won $500+ in a friendly 6-deck game. Got 6 hours shuteye and headed back to Borgata. Played a couple of hours and won another $500+ in a $10 game. Played slots and won another $400+. All told, won $950 between slots and BJ. This marked my fourth BJ outing, winning at BJ in all 4, but the second time I was stuck for a long period of time.
No matter that counters have the advantage, it sure “feels” like gambling when you put two hands out at $100 each with a 14+ positive count (KO). And sometimes you get a double-down and a split, and maybe even another double-down on the split, giving you a $500 round in a $10 minimum game. And sometimes, lo and behold, even at an 18 positive count when you are expecting tens and aces, and all you get are 5’s, 6’s, and 7’s. :yikes: It may not be gambling in the long run, but I never have to worry about poor blood circulation in the short run!
In the last session at the Borgata the dealer black-jacked three rounds in a row. A first in my experience! Even so, I won $500 in a short time with a long positive count in which everything worked just like you imagine it. I quit at the end of the shoe fearing too much heat. The guy next to me said in utter amazement, “You’re not quitting with a hot hand, are you?” He tracked me down at the slots later and told me that he moved to my seat and won all his money back plus a handsome profit. Some people insist on believing in luck and hot hands.
PS--After the dealer BJ'ed three in a row, my buddy doubled-down three times in a row and won all three! Kinda puts three BJ's in perspective when a player can do that!
