FYI,

There is a thread about me on rge21.com,

(Dead link: http://www.advantageplayer.com/blackjack/forums/bj-newbies/webbbs.cgi?read=3542)

I am most humbled by the two comments Don Schlesinger made in that thread.

Enjoy!

the thread had a couple of amusing posts.

the elitist attitude of several posters is apparent.

the one by some "methodman" implied that that site was for the free exchange of ideas (unlike this one ?). somehow that is contraindicated by the "postbusting" thereon of posts containing information "too good for the readers" of that board. what's wrong with this picture ?

comments that this website host is working both sides of the street are as well, amusing. mr. "wong" and others have consistently been employed by, were contracted by, were consulted by, or appeared in public forums with, representatives of the gaming industry. i do not disrespect mr. "wong" for his work in the industry. and only an oaf would criticize arnold snyder for appearances within gaming industry symposia. thus those who complain about this site's host should include in their negative diatribe, those *several* other "conspirators" (?).

inconsistency is inconsistent with a mathematical *attack* of any game.

Odd and surprising

That Parker has a bad image of you Eliot. I have met the man and I respect him very much. He is a world class player. His view is and I remember from his past comments that he felt you crossed the line on some casino vs AP issue. This was an old issue! Don is holding a bad grudge which is stupid. I can state right now that I play several times a year with Eliot and his play is world class as well. If a person has not been there next to him they should shut the f#@k up. ELiot is not only brilliant but he knows how to take the casino's money! Eliot's level of play is one long study in cutting into the casino's bottom line. You can hate him or like him but you have to respect him! I am very lucky to have the chance to learn from him. Most of the so called pros would not even talk to me much less break me in. Eliot taught me to play at a pro level. I just wish I had a pro level Bank roll!!! Eliot I want the first issue of your book with an autograph OF COURSE!!!!! This site may be small but we can do some damage!

Parker wrote well of EJ -

He is extremely intellegent, articulate, and well educated. I have no doubt that his book will be technically solid, and probably entertaining as well. However, I share your feelings completely.

I mean, how many card counters who are really serious about playing have a website with their photo and real name smeared all over the main page?

After all, this is the guy who once sent his resume to a casino, and later gave them a live demonstration of how easy it was to track their shuffle.

COME ON ZENG MAN SEEMS LIKE PARKER IS SPINNING HERE. ON ONE ISSUE HE SUPPORTS THE QUALITY OF THE BOOK BUT THEN HE CRITIZES THE MAYOR'S WISH FOR SOME ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF HIS INTELLIGENCE. ITS CALLED MARKETING OLE BOY. SO WHY CANT THE MAYOR BE FAMOUS. THIS SITE PROVES HE HAS A HELL OF A LOT TO OFFER. LETS KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT AND TAKE THE CASINO'S MONEY NOT FIGHT AMONGST OUR SELVES. PARKER IS A WORLD CLASS PLAYER AND HE HAS MY RESPECT. SCHLESINGER IS A BLACK JACK GOD ON THE LEVEL OF WONG, USTON, THORP ETC. IT JUST SEEMS THAT JEALOUSY IS RAMPANT AT THE UPPER INTELLECTUAL LEVELS OF THIS THING WE DO. HEY IN THE WORDS OF R KING "CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG"!

I Want "Golden Gate".....Screw all this Other Sh#t!

If any of you "Newbies", i.e., those entering this site with some basic BJ knowledge, and hoping to expand, "Want to see how it goes"....then you MUST read the "Golden Gate", still available on this site.

Certainly, I would respect any publication of the Mayor as sincre and factual. However, if he publishes a "book for beginners"....I could write several!

However, if he would write a book "for advanced players who are mathematically challenged", I would buy a copy.....just to see if His were better than mine!

But, IMHO, if HE would turn "Golden Gate" into a book, I would buy several copies.

The THREAD above alleged many negative charges to E.Jacobson. Barred from his site for negative comments....I aint't been yet!

THIS is a site for EDUCATION! Sincere comments/questions have always been welcome, even if ultimately STUPID, as long as same are asked with the INTENT for EDUCATION, and not any other secondary agenda.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE, only the "LVHCM" has been barred from THIS site.....and I never then nor now, understood "WHY?". OK, so they want to kill PC's who turn on the Heat...............

Anyhow, in 6D, in a -44 ct, I hit 16 agiainst Dealer 5-up......drew a "5" and Dealer hit to 17 (ultimately).....Was this a Good Play?

Combativeness among players is pointless

What could the point possibly be? There are what, a couple of dozen ways to count that are all about as good as any other if you implement them right? You have sidecounts, playing indexes, and game selection, all of which have a mathematically definable value. There is the bankroll requirement, also mathematically definable as a function of one's game and tolerance for risk.

Then there's the other side of the game. Table deportment, cover play, use of tokes, dealing with heat and emergencies. These are variables- my loutish, stumbling, drink-spewing style works for me but for a guy who is capable of flying under the radar, that will work better. Some players play til barred, others leave at any sign of heat. Some play craps for cover, others play slots or VP- known advantages and disadvantages to each.

And we all make money if we plan and implement our game well. So what is there to argue about?

Agree - GG is one of the best BJ Stories I've Read

I wish the Mayor would finish it. I found it much better than many of the published BJ novels.

regarding Parker

What is 'odd and surprising' to me is that you would single out Parker and suggest he has a 'bad image' of Mr. Jacobson (EJ).

It may be true, I don't know. But what I do know is you can't glean that from what Parker posted in that thread. In the short time I have been a member of the community, Parker is about the most consistent, most dependable, most fair-minded board-op I have seen in action (and yes, he has busted more than one of my efforts.)

The thread began with a question regarding EJ's new book, and Parker, if anything, gave it a positive nod.

As the thread grew, Parker express' (you may not like his choice of words) the apparent dis-connect between wanting to be an advantage player and plastering your picture and resume from here to there in public.

Frankly, I find the dis-connect hard to understand also; but hey -to each his own.

In his (I hate to use the word 'defense', it sounds to harsh) defense of noteriety, EJ states that he can play in EVERY casino in Vegas (the added emphasis is his, not mine.)

In an article in the Las Vegas Weekly, October 2003, posted on this site, EJ is telling the writer (apparently) that the last time he walked into the Bellagio, due to FRS, he was met at the door and turned away.

Duh!? If EJ was surprised by that (and I'm sure he was not) maybe a little less noteriety would be in order.

You are an AP'er I presume. I will also presume that you do all you can to stay under the radar. So why bag on Parker, twice, for 1) giving EJ a decent book report, and 2) wondering outloud why EJ prefers the limelight?

You ended your last blast on Parker, with a capitalized "WHY CAN'T WE ALL GET ALONG?"

An excellent idea. Maybe you could begin by trying to not manufacture ill will where it dosen't exist.

Good question

I only mentioned the specific game because it was mentioned previously in the thread as the game I was playing when I was officially trespassed. Otherwise, I would not have mentioned it. You obviously know why.

Here is a link to where this game was first mentioned:

Golden Gate Update

I want to say that I am sorry I didn't work on it any more, but that is not the case. I have done a lot more. I have the entire story mapped out, with some significant changes, and a few of the new chapters written. The problem is that I want the story to be a lot larger than it currently is, so it simply doesn't make sense to include the updated material (it is non-linear). I wrote the new material last summer (2003), and it is "pre" Las Vegas, and has nothing to do with gaming. Instead, it is my story at Ohio University and a bit more of the lead up to the GG.

If you really want, I will post that material. All you need to do is ask.

Re; Bellagio

Regarding Parker, I hold no ill will towards the man, nor do I believe he holds ill will towards me. I know many more things about the man than I can say on this board.

Regarding the incident mentioned, I was never met at the door using FRS. I was met at a table, after about 30 minutes of play at one of their shoe games. I have successfully played at the Bellagio several times recently without incident.

So my statement stands, I can play anywhere in LV -- with a few exceptions.

I was backed off at the LV-Club on my last trip, but that was after using an agressive 30-1 spread on their Double Deck, so it is not surprising. But, I shall return there soon, they will forget

I played at the El Cortez two trips ago without incident, spreading 10-1 on their single deck, but on the last trip a boss who knows me was on guard, so I chose not to play.

This seems like standard-fare stuff, having nothing to do with my publically available image and name.

re: Bellagio

Fair enough; but here is the quote from the article from which I spoke ...

"Mayor takes issue with the growing use of facial recognition technology in casinos. Once, as soon as he set foot in Bellagio, security greeted him by name. He left immediately." Las Vegas Weekly, October 2003

... reporters do have a hard time getting it right sometimes.

Certainly the examples you cite are nothing out of the ordinary; still, AP play and noteriety seem disconnected to me, but as I said, if it works for you, then rock and roll.

Thanks for the opportunity to post. I felt that Learning-To-Count was un-fairly trying to cast a dark shadow on what Parker said in the posting string in question.

Probably you do know Parker better than I; I don't know him at all.

But the public figure 'Parker' has always been fair with me.

Good luck and thanks again.
