Getting a room comped

I'm planning on going to vegas this summer for maybe a 3 day weekend.

Do you guys believe calling up a casino with something like:

"I’m going to bring 10 grand to gamble with in vegas this summer. Whichever casino can comp me a room for 3 days is where I’ll be spending it. How can you help me?"

Could it work like that? Or do I have to follow some lame comp rules? It seems beneficial for them to just give me a room for 3 days.

Is this a serious question?
The very best you can hope for is someone to tell you come, pay rack rate and we'll be happy to review your play when you are checking out to see if it merits a comp or a discount.

It is certainly not beneficial for a casino to comp a room up front for anyone claiming to be a big bettor. Do you see why?

I would recommend you call or email a host at your property of choice and tell them your intentions. You will get casino rate at least by doing this. Chances are if you play you will get comped on your way out but you will have to tie up the room money while your there. Good luck....JtMM

there is no free lunch.....

get a room, park your ass at a table and play for 2-3 hours (if you're betting higher than $50/hand) then ask a pit boss to find you a host.

i have a slot playing friend who just got 3 days comped X 2 rooms + a $400 meal at a strip hotel i only dream about staying at (upwards of $300/night)....... she's a slot player and get's deals like this since she actually plays.... not talks about playing.

Criminol,
Based on your other posts, there is no reason you should be thinking about bringing $10,000 to a casino, unless you want to piss it away.

Poker probably isn't going to get you a free room in Vegas. Share it with another poker player and you might be able to land some weeknights.

If you're playing tables, you should be able to get a room comped downtown. Just get on the phone and start calling until you find someone who will do it. I've gotten hosts to comp a room without ever playing at a casino before. Took a few hours on the phone calling every casino in town, but I got it.

Poker will probably get you a $29 room at a lot of decent casinos these days.

If this is your first time in LV, get a cheap room rate at someplace like Palace Station or Eastside Cannery or El Cortez by calling up a host and asking for a casino rate. If you play a little there (using a card, of course), they will comp off the cost at the end of the stay.

If you're planning future stays, go to the place you want to stay, play for a few hours, and at the end ask to see a host. Ask them to send you an offer for your next trip.

East Can has rooms from like $29, so it's not like you're breaking the bank by paying to stay there.

No place nice on the strip will comp you up front.

There is a really great program called Travelaxe (google it). I use this for finding the best rates on hotel rooms and there are really cheap rooms in Vegas right now.

If you want a comped room, do not use a third party vendor like Travelaxe or Orbitz or Expedia.

You cannot get a room comped when the hotel room is paid for in this manner.

If you're just looking for the most inexpensive room, try to get the cheapest room you can online and only then call the casino marketing office at the place you want to stay and ask them if they can do better than the rate you found online. Usually they can, and in addition if your play warrants it, you won't even pay for the room at the end of the stay.

Buy an American Casino Guide and use it to book two nites at El Cortez for
$30, or two nights at GoldenGate for about the same.

Las Vegas is hurting right now. I believe that you can push for free rooms fairly effectively.

On a Harrah's players card (yah, I know), my wife has received all sorts of free room offers (Balley's, Harrahs, can't remember the rest), and significantly reduced rates at Paris, Casears. And she is not a bit gambler (slots). (Me, on the BJ tables, playing small and not AP, have not done so well with the comps).

Using frequent flyer points, we are scheduled for a 4-nighter in June at the Paris for an all-in cost of less than $600 at the Paris (from CYMM). Taxes are about half of that total.

I'd call & push the casinos nowadays.

I think both of Doofus' posts are spot on. They have worked for me.

If you want a cheap room then use Shadroch's advice, if you want a FREE room, then find a reasonably priced place, book through THEIR phone or WEBSITE, show up and play for 2-4 hours at $25/hand. I have done both of these things they both work.

Calling around dive hotels in downtown vegas to hustle a room seems like a waste of time to me, i would never do this, because my time is worth more to me than getting a $30 hotel room for $0 in advance.

If it's for several days, it could be worth it.
