good strategy ?

Was wondering what some of the more experienced players think of this strategy for 'cover' play. 6 deck; S17, DAS, RSA, 70-75% pen. Using KO preferred, and nickel units, I will start with Snyders 'up-down-up' strategy, i.e.2unit bet beginning of shoe. If count looks promising, I will then go down to 1 unit 1/4-1/2 into shoe. Use a progression for a bit that looks something like this: win 2 in a row,bet 2 units; three=3; 4=4, and then back to 1unit.Anytime I lose a hand, stay at 1 or go back. Hopefully, by then, I'm into the KC or pivot, and hopefully I have the house thinking i'm a real gambler !
If count goes too neg, I will either exit, or stick to flat betting 1 unit.
My max bet would be 8 units. 1000.00 br.

thnx to all

i don't have all that much experience but i do have an opinion on this.i wouldn't even mess with the cover play in most instances. its expensive. the way i like to use cover play is to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. first of all i wouldn't use cover play unless i have reason to believe it's for some compelling reason the prudent thing to do. but if and when i do use it i'd like it to be both for cover and if it's say a really marginal play that might by luck work out winner for me. or maybe you need cover and the play might make a few players think about leaving the table.
doubtless Mr. Snyder knows what he's talking about as far as the cover play described. the trick though is applying it as you described in a viable situation. it's relatively rare to see the count stay advantageous long enough to press the plays you described above.
i like where you say you exit if the count goes negative. the max bet of 8 units may be a bit steep if your total overall bankroll is one grand. the thing is you pretty much need at least a max of 8 units to realize an advantage. it would be ok if your trip bankroll was one grand. well you really wouldn't need that much for a trip bankroll if your betting at that rate.

best regards,

What Mr Snyder would probably tell you

Mr Frog did not quite say it and Arnold Snyder would tell you. As a nickel player, especially playing a shoe game, in the vast majority of casinos, you do not have to lose any EV on cover plays.
Again it depends upon where you play, certain casinos in downtown Vegas, Reno and certain Coast casinos will sweat a red chip player, but many casinos completely ignore red chippers and really do not care very much if you count or not.
As a green chip player, I sacrificed a little EV for cover but very little and now mainly playing black chips it has become necessary most of the time, but still not all of the time.

Yes I agree, playing that kind of a game you don't need any cover, and with a $1K BR you can't afford it. Betting cover is important for SD players and those playing large stakes, not so much for shoe players betting at the green chip level or lower.
