What is the difference?
Normally a Gorilla is used to get a huge bet spread between the BP and the spotters. It is less effective than playing with a regular BP, but it still gives you a big advantage. It also saves you a lot of training time.JoeV said:So whats the use of having a gorilla play if he can't play without help from others? Doesn't that just add more risk without much in return?

You can't relay a count to a gorilla. A gorilla doesn't know how to count and might not even know Basic Strategy. You have to signal every move.shadroch said:Not if its verbal.Think relay system.

Without being insensitive to your relatives here Monk, I think it's big hassle to signal a gorilla for every play, DD, splits, stand/hit etc. You are wasting a lot of energy as well as the possibility of excessive signal interceptions. The ideal situation would be to teach him CABC adjusted to the count at point of entry/exit. Therefore he will be making the correct play for the count he is up against and only needs an exit signal at that point.
What, you mean everyone doesn't play drunk? My act includes alcohol and I've played so drunk I fell out of my chair and wallowed on the floor (during bad counts only).RJT said:Got to agree with Bob here - While the whole idea of the Gorilla is to reduce training time, using a Gorilla who doesn't even know BS is just asking for trouble. The only time you should be signaling plays is for indicies and the rest of your signals should be simple signals to indicate a raise or lowering of the bet. Count adjusted BS is an even better idea again reducing the number of signals you need to pass.
And if a Gorilla is ever better than your BP, you've not done a good job choosing/training your BP. Your BP should be skilled to the extreem and fast with it. The guys i've seen who play BP were phenomenal. I thought i was good until i got a look at them and how smooth they were with every aspect of the game. The only possible situation where a Gorilla might be more desirable is if you want the guy betting big to actually get drunk and pay no attention what-so-ever to the cards as some from of cover.
RJT.
What? Sounds like you didn't get an A in deportment in grade school from Sister Mary Holycard.Automatic Monkey said:What, you mean everyone doesn't play drunk? My act includes alcohol and I've played so drunk I fell out of my chair and wallowed on the floor (during bad counts only).
Of course I wasn't really that drunk. Only half that drunk! Who needs a gorilla?
