I saw an episode of las vegas (fictional montecito casino, James Cann) in which they used facial expression software to determine if the player was expecting to win as a way of determining if he was cheating. At the time I googled such software and although I can't seem to find the site now, I recall the software focused on 22 points of the face to determine the immediate involunatary reaction that takes place immediately after an event (such as winning a BJ hand). This immediate involuntary reaction lasts a fraction of a second. The software needs to examine 30 some frames taken within a second of the event to analize 6 different characteristic, one of them being surprise, which is what we are talking about in this case. The accuracy of the software was listed in the 80 percentile range.

I have never heard nor read of a casino actually using such software, although nothing surprises me anymore. I would imagine such software would be pretty expensive for results that may not be completely acurate and like facial recognition software, I would guess that glasses and caps with brims may impede such software.

You are talking about Oceans 13 I think. I am pretty sure that is completely fictional. Even if it were possible to design such sofware the amount of money that would be required to make/buy that software would be astronomical compared to how much it would save you.

Definitely from Ocean's 13 :)

I actually do a lot of my grad school research on machine learning, facial feature recognition, etc. I would tell you that the easiest way they would do this is to immediately check pupil dilatation. I can also tell you that it wouldn't be 100% accurate and I doubt the casinos use software like this, especially if the cameras are above you and not right on the machine/tables.
