Check out “The World’s Greatest Blackjack Book” by Lance Humble (but not a very humble title). It covers the Hi Opt I and II systems. But, to be honest, you are probably better of sticking with HiLo. It is easier to use and is better suited to the multi-deck games that most casinos offer. Any counting system that requires and ace side count is usually not worth the effort in shoe games. A simple system like HiLo or KO will be easier to learn and easier to use in a casino. Also, the information in Humble’s book is outdated. It would be better if you bought a more recent book.

Or KO, R7, KISS2, etc. BUT if you are up to a level2 consider ZEN, Mentor, UBZ, or RPC... NOT HO2, its obsolete. zg

Kevin Blackwood Hi Opt II

Blackwood advocates Hi Opt II in "Play Blackjack like the Pros". My library had that book. All the Hi Opt II rounded indexes are in the back. I can't comment on the system, I use KO and only play 8 deck shoes generally.

In that case Blackwood's book would be a much better choice than Humble's. I've heard good things about his book but haven't read it myself. I played Hi Opt II for about 6 years before switching to Zen. Looking back, I should have done it sooner.

Blackwood's HO2 indices will work ok for ZEN. But the HO2 count itself is obsolete. zg

Sonny, so you played before with Hi Opt 2 and you change to the Zen Strategy, what do you think is better; it looks like hi Opt 2 could be a little obsole, is Zen better?

Cheers.

Yes, I'm much happier with the Zen system. But you’ll probably want to start with something simpler like HiLo or KO. They are both very powerful systems and you can learn them fairly quickly. You can always switch to a harder system later, although most people usually stay with the easier systems and make plenty of money.

I also played HO2, for several years, before I switched to ZEN. I disagree with Sonny in that IF you have solid arithmetic skills and you intend to practice and play alot, you may procede directly to ZEN.

What makes HO2 "obsolete" is the necessity of counting Aces seperately. With ZEN you keep a single count. Someone here can provide the 1D TC indices for ZEN. Alternatively you could go with Renzey's MENTOR count from Blackjack Bluebook. zg

Comparison tags (2-A):

HO2 - 112211 0 0-2 0
ZEN - 112221 0 0-2-1
MEN - 122221 0-1-2-1

THE "BEST" CARD COUNTING SYSTEM

A number of blackjack players have written me asking my opinion of the "best" card counting system. This is a loaded question. As I mentioned in Blackjack Forum #I I have been using the Hi-Opt II count, because I like its power and simplicity for my ability and style of play.

That book still refers to USSR and mention French francs/German marks instead of Euros
It also says that very few states have casinos and things like that.

In his defense, back then there were only 28 states. :p
