How are you doing?

My question regards a situation I've run into at a casino that I have been frequenting as of late.

A dealer will ask "How's the play been for you?" while staring at my chips ... invariably this happens during the shuffle, but to be more specific, it happens when the dealer is fumbling with the cut-card.

I'm relatively unknown at this casino, but thus far its one of the better places I've found to play in Colorado (a double-deck game with pretty much everything allowed except for surrender).

I had $200 in red on the table, and the dealer asked the above question while shuffling the cards and looking at my chips. I tend to always say I'm down no matter what, as I did in this case, and I noticed that as I indicated how bad I was doing the dealer was more willing to place the cut card deeper, thus giving greater penetration (the single place i've found where the dealers actually dealt down to almost half a deck).

My question is this: it seems obvious to me that as much as the dealers appear to act as though they are just the middle-men in this environment, in fact, it wasn't until I told the dealer that I had been losing that made him place the cut card into the deck a little deeper. Should I sit back and count out the exact number of cards they deal for a few rounds? Should I find somewhere else to play?

I appreciate your time and advice, thank you.

Why would you do either? I think you're probably reading way too much into small talk, but if the dealer is your friend and cutting more that's a good thing. I don't know why you'd want to go anywhere else and I'm totally clueless as to why you'd want to count out the number of cards dealt per round.

It's a great game.. but the reason i have questions is that most of the commercial casinos around the area have a specific spot that they put the cut card that is notched into the discard tray. This casino I have been playing lately doesn't have that -- they seem to allow the dealer to cut where they wish. Another place up the way barely deals even a deck out of a double deck game. They advertise the most 'liberal' blackjack rules, but dealing less than a deck seems pretty shady to me. I'm asking if other players are of the same opinion.

Specifically this is my issue -- if the dealers are so keen as to keep track of how much money I have, and then cut into the deck as a result of either being ahead or behind, then my sense is that I have to question whether or not they are dealing a game worth playing.

It seems to me he is hoping for tips. It may be an offer for a very favorable cut if you give him a toke in the next shoe. If you can work something like that out you can both make money. Just dont tip to soon after a dealer helps you. It looks like collusion.

He is just trying to be friendly and make your stay at the casino a pleasant one.

Let's look at it this way: most, if not all ploppies don't even notice where the dealer cuts off the deck. You are suggesting that the dealer knows you are a counter, you like a deeper cut, and will expect tokes. That's a very big stretch. It might be slightly slightly possible if you have played with the dealer before.

I think the dealer is just making small talk. My usual answer when they ask how it's going for me is "Up and Down."

How about:

"I feel like I'm hanging on a meat hook in the biggest cooler known to man."

Shake your head and smile when you say it - at least they'll think you have a sense of humor, and it's usually good for a couple of extra cards of pen. if the dealer has a clue.

IMO, anything non-jerky is +EV.

Just respond "My shrink says I gamble because I feel guilt and want to lose -- and so far, I'm succeeding."

Wc610, ,,,,,,ever wonder why these 'commercial stores' don't have as good a game as the one your playing right now? I guarantee that 1262 cc's from vegas are searching feverishly for your little chummy game your playing.
In fact, if you could be a little more specific in details would help tremendously.....
Like what's the limits, that helps a lot.
It is summer, vegas is hot, a lot of people unemployed, let's take a road trip!
Might want to delete a few things in your post.
Never ceases to amaze me.......
