I was just wondering how many times that you have been backed off or other wise restricted from playing blackjack. I have been backed off 6 times at 4 different places.

You're going to need to expand the poll option to way more than three.
I agree i take pride in my backoffs, its fun to watch them wet their pants and pace circles not knowing what to do.

A good AP should never be proud of being backed off you should feel ashamed for getting caught.

back off

I don't think I'll ever get backed off because of the tables limits I play. I have had alot of subtle hints thrown my way because winning and playing ability. I know better than to push my luck and change pits or leave altogether before I get a talking to. Limited casinos close by dictate better camo and shorter sessions ensure longevity. blackchipjim

Neither. Backoffs in blackjack are like penalties in football. They're nothing to be proud of and to be avoided if possible, but if you are playing aggressively enough to win you are going to get them, so get over it.

I have a little story concerning backoffs and how "easy" it is for them to happen. About a year and half ago Mike Aponte better known now as MIT Mike filmed a special in which he was shown getting backed off. As most know he is banned from playing in virtually all casinos in Vegas, so thats where they decided to secretly film the back off. Well he almost couldn't get backed off. He went to every casino where he had been forever banned, spread wildly at 2 deck games from table mins to maxs, refusing to be rated, and it wasn't until he finally hit the last one spreading 50 to 1 winning $10,000 that someone finally told him to leave.

What does this mean? First off none that are posting on this board that I know of are as notorious to the casinos as Mike. So if he can play in the casinos doing everything possible to purposely get backed off, and still have a hard time doing it, then I believe the average part time counter should not be so eager to accept the fallacy of playing a winning game means you have to get backed off. Yes, it is a possibility. No, it is not a foregone conclusion. Granted if he had played in one of the local sweat shops a back off would have been easier, but then why as a player would you play where optimal play kills your E.V. I believe if you play long enough you will experience being backed off. I believe if it becomes a regularity then you never learned more than the math of counting, therefore never mastering the craft.

Bojack although you make a good point, i would also point out that Mike Aponte has the natural camo of being Asian and i think that is a huge part of why it took him soo long to get backed off. I see Asian players using wild spreads all the time and none of them are counting. I also dont think the average pit boss or surveillance guy would be able to pick off one of the MIT guys just by looking at them. Nevertheless, what he was able to get away with is amazing.

I thought he was a Flip not an Asian. Or do they all look alike to you?

Either way, don't believe everything you see in movies! I can spread like that in some places, and in other places no one can get away with spreading anything for very long. I also don't look like a typical counter and it doesn't buy me very much in a place with competent surveillance because all they are looking for is someone playing with an advantage, not a race or a face.

There are some fantastic, experienced players on this board, some full-time pros, and we've all been backed off. Big fat hairy deal. Just go back another time.

By the way, every time I hear the term "backed off," I think of the movie Casino and how Sharon Stone "backs off" Joe Pesce. Kind of a good way to get backed off no?
