You need to establish a track record of employment for credit purposes, health care, SS, etc.
One famous pro I know depends on his wife for health care, credit etc. while he tries to make a go of it being an AP, and he is one of the best.
Keep the day job, have a normal life as best you can.
Besides, the games are *generally* not there anymore.

Or, in the case of Italians, the finer things in life means having six girlfriends and sexing themselves to an early death. Which brings me back to my original comment ... I'm not saying one way is better than the other.
I'll regret this tomorrow - never thought of it that way lol.gus said:How many pros on this forum?

People in Europe are more likely to "work to live" and find satisfaction in enjoying the finer things in life, such as sitting with friends and drinking a nice bottle of wine (even sometimes at the cost of succeeding in business).

I'm not saying one way is better than the other, but people in the US are more likely to "live to work" and find satisfaction more in work-related things (even sometimes at the cost of a personal life). One problem with AP is that drawing your living and recreational expenses from your bankroll increases your RoR a whole bunch. But conversely, having a even a small steady income not subject to risk decreases your RoR a whole bunch.mjbballar23 said:to answer the original question: I would guess there are about 10-15 pros that post on here but i could be way off. Im defining a "pro" as one that relies almost entirely on advantage play to pay the bills (not necessarily just blackjack card counting).
It' really possible or you will always need a "normal" side job? Its definitely possible as i have friends that have done it/still do it; however, they were/are not relying solely on card counting thats for sure. Having many skills up your sleeve is key to success.

Neither here or there, and I guess not relevant, but you hit a soft spot there for me.GeorgeD said:I noticed in Aruba that dinners in restaurants were by reservation, but once there they were very relaxing.
