How NOT to be a card-counter

1. Sit down at a table.
2. Cash in $1,500 worth of cash and neatly arrange your chips in piles of $5, $25and $100 denominations.
3. Then take a $5 chip from your $1,500 pile and put into one betting circle, until the count gets better - if the count goes bad just sit at the table and dont place any bets, but resume when the new shoe starts.
4. Look as if you are really concentrating.
5. Dont make any small talk with the dealer.
6. Dont make any small talk with the other players.
7. Every now and then make a grinding sound just as if you were working at the office.

This might sound a little far-fetched, but this is exactly the situation i came across this week whilst playing.
I ended up playing next to the guy for 2-3 shoes and then left. Obviously it's important to learn about BS, index, bet variation etc but I think it's also important to learn how to act a little and how to at least try to hide yourself a little bit - using all of the above steps, you may as well put a big sign on your head saying - "Quiet please - I am counting cards" ;)

I actually wanted to try to catch this guy later on and give him this tip in person albeit in a constructive manner but wasn't able to catch him.

Perhaps it was all an act!

Maybe he was trying to be SO obviously counting that the pit wouldn't take him seriously? lol

I'm card counter sign

I would never ever give someone a tip on his cover for to do this would or could be a grave error on your part. This sounds like the guys is clueless and so be it to give him the tip up and be on camera with him is a no no. I figure if the guy is that stupid or naive to send all the signals to the pit good for you less heat for you. Don't ever be a friendly matter of fact guy to anyone if you can help it because you really don't know who you are talking to. blackchipjim

I uses the chips to count cards. The white chips I use as +1,and the red chips I use as -1. I am a small better. A $4000 win would be enough for me, until I play again another day. If I were to bet big I would use camouflage. I would put different color chips in the betting circle, mix them up,with the red ones on top. I would act stupid. I also would bring a BS card with me, and use it in front of the pit boss. Sometime I would go off BS like standing on 16 against the dealer's 7. I don't think it's wise to double down on 12 against the dealer's 6. I would make it look as if I knew nothing about BS.

Harry:)
