im a true rookie at this and im going to get the basics down before i try my luck at the casinos.. im working pretty hard at counting, and after that i will learn the other... im learing the hi opt I method...
when you first sit down, at a fresh deck (lets say 6 deck),, when do you start to raise your bets if the count is in your favor?? after 4 hands, if the count is +4,, do you go ahead and raise your bet or do you wait until the deck is about halfway???

As long as you are using the true count it doesn't really matter how far into the shoe you are. There are unbalanced running count systems like KO and Red 7 that do not calculate the true count (they use adjusted initial running counts and pivot points instead), but if you are using a balanced system like Hi-Opt I you don't have to worry about that stuff. Just divide the RC by the number of decks left (or half decks, quarter decks, etc.) and you'll be fine.

On a side note, there are better systems to learn than Hi-Opt I. Systems like HiLo don't need the ace side count so they are easier to use and they are arguably just as powerful in real world conditions.

how much differece would it be if you just kept the real count and never converted to true count??
If you use an unbalanced count like KO or Red 7 you don't have to calculate the true count. In that case it doesn't matter at all. If you try to use a balanced count in RC mode you will lose a decent amount of accuracy.
